Well, I kept going back and looking at the pics in between posts .... and each time I kept seeing new stuff I just HAD to comment on! Molten LAVA! That's the best I can do to describe what I see when I look at those wings. BRAVO!!!barad_dur wrote:Don’t hold back B-A, so what do you really think?

Something else just occurred to me ... you like to live dangerously, do you? I mean - that is a mighty dangerous spot to be spray painting your bash on ... its a long way down, and there's not enough putty and glue in the world to put it back again if she goes!

Thanks guys !
B-A, actually I do get nervous sometimes painting kits out on the balcony ; but so far no tragedies !
Cleaned up the wing fingers from the red overspray .
Added a bit of red to the head.
Made teeth a bit silver-ish
Roughed in sculpted eyeballs, still need to paint them.
Trevor, B-A,
it may not look like it due to different lighting conditions, but I left the underwings bright “lava”red since you guys like that look so much.

Amazing work and so impressive how you can envision it and then bring it to life. Lots of different skills there. Really like the outdoor photos - perfect setting!

That looks amazing.
The added red to the head, really ties it all together and gives it the finishing touch IMHO.

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, Finished 2023-01-18
.
Per comments above - I get real nervous seeing those outside photos given the drop - always worried that 1 or 2 posts later there might be a "well, we had a gust of wind, and . . . "
Another interesting thread to browse through, and as always a lot of patience & skill to make it all come together.
It's always personal taste, but I'll admit I'm not feeling the head/jaw or its angle . . . can't help thinking that (for me) it may have worked better with a chunkier and less linear head/jawline, and with his neck more arched to allow him to look straight up per Godzilla in the movies when his blue breathy thingy shoots into the sky. Like I said - personal taste though (and I certainly wouldn't have the talent to do ANY of this!)
Once again, the amount of detailing, adjustment, re-sculpting & blending is phenomenal.
Always fun to read through these - thanks for taking the time to share everything

Thanks Ian, I appreciate your feedback!
I will most likely revisit this bash sometime in the future as I am still not totally happy with the paint scheme. To your comments, the current pose is very linear, so maybe some neck and head changes are in order…

Re: Kitbash: Xenomorphus Rex Dragon, Finished 2023-01-18
This bash just wasn’t working for me.
The wings were not”right”; not sure why, but I think that they were not in proper size/scale for the size of the legs and head.
For wings to work on this bash, I believe they would have to be at least 3 feet wide each. I am not even considering making them that big.
The head wasn’t quite right either.
So, I cut off the wings (that was a chore!, but I am sure I can use these wings on another bash)
Trimmed off side horns on head , and cut out a bit of the back of the head too.
I like it much better already. It has regained more of that aggressive and angry feel that the original xenomorphus rex had.
I will have to rework the forearms and hands where wings were removed, and most likely have to reposition the arms some too.
Not sure yet how to finish refining the head yet, but it needs something…maybe extend and add some curvature to the neck ?

Re: Kitbash:Xenomorphus Rex, reworking 2023-06-21
Continued slimming down the head and cutting down the back lobes for a more dragon hornlike look than alien queen-ish look.
Thinned down the neck. Will most likely extend the neck a bit and add a left turning curve to it for more visual interest.
Cut off arms for repositioning. Changing to be more of a forward threatening grabbing like pose.
So far, I like the new direction that this is going.

I'm really admiring your work on this and I really like the 3D printed head you chose also. Looking forward to what you do with the paint upon finishing the build.

Re: Kitbash:Xenomorphus Rex, reworking 2023-06-21
Thank you OKmike!
The 3d alien head was very nicely done and a great start, but there is not much left of original head as I have changed pretty much all of it.
Not sure about the paint scheme yet.
I need a scheme that will really highlight all that alien-tubing detailing that was a lot of work to add.
