Wow this is quite the project! I can tell already the new wings are going to look spectacular. Just like I imagined them in my memory from when I first read the Two Towers as a young Tolkien fan.
Re: Statue-bash:Balrog Deathwing dragon:new pics 2020-06-01
Test fit of both wings.
The wing fingers look much thicker than they really are due to light coming in from behind.
Still have to fix breaks, remove mechanical looking parts, fill in webbing , and extend right side wing.
Cut off claw-hoofs as I plan to convert feet to be much more dragon-like with 3 longer toed claws .
Had to reposition balrog on base to make room for longer dragon feet.

Thanks again for posting all these pics Joe.
It's been a LOOOOOONG day at (away from) work, I've JUST finished, and checked my home email. Seeing the notification in my inbox lifted my spirits (you could almost say "gave me wings" )
Great work - those feet remind me of the nasty from that old classic movie "Night/Curse Of The Demon".

Thanks Ian.
The feet look a bit large and out of scale, but I think that’s because they are white resin and stand out against the black legs and original body..
I will narrow them down as I cut in the details.

Honestly, I don't think they look all that big.
He's a big critter, and needs some good sized feet for stability.

Thanks Trevor.
That’s exactly why I am replacing the original hoofs, they just seemed way to small for this guy.

That detailing must have taken a wee bit of patience!

Hah, actually Ian not in this case, the dremel saw made relatively short work of it .
Patching where the metal features were removed will take a little bit of work, but not too hard.
after removing the huge amount of resin off the back, and getting the wing conversion mostly finished;
we are back on easy street now.
Have to finish detailing the wings feet, neck , abs , and trim up the chest sides a bit.
Then I will put the wings on and see what is required to blend them into the back and sides.
I will have to put the right wing a little lower than where I would of preferred due to how the wing rod must go into a place where there is a good chunk of resin and I didn’t want to mess around with changing the angle of the attachment rod. I also need the wing base kinda resting on the back of the Right arm to give it some extra support as it is pretty heavy due to the all the milliput required for webbing and fingers.
I will add lots of small to medium size spikes running from the back of the head down the back and tail.
Some purists will no doubt say it is no longer technically a balrog without the back flames but personally I never cared for fire/flames on statues/kits as it always looks very unrealistic unless you are a seriously master class painter or add lighting.

Sorry bud - I obviously wasn't clear with my question - I was curious what the "metallic features" were that you removed.

Oh, got it. Where the wing fingers join at the top of the wing and on some of the wing fingers there are (were) hard sharp geometric metal looking shapes, hinges, and spikes; versus natural organic flesh looking details.
So had to cut all those off.
