Yeah , ton of time put in ; but that is usual for me.
One step forward , then two steps back.

But I am finally pretty happy with the current look.
Just have to refine a few spikes and bone spurs;
and should be able to move back into painting phase again.

Thanks to all who have been following this bash.

Just a heads up that I am going on a trip with the missus starting next week;
So it will be a few weeks until I can get back to working on this dragon .

Quick rough paint base coat
Goal is to get the body to have rich color tones like the wings
Still need to decide if neck side spikes and bone Spurs will be black or bone toned…
Had to reprime the base and still need to dry brush and add washes like before

Thanks!

This stage of the build always bothers me as the painting looks so garish and awful until after I blend it and tone it all down with some more paint and stain washes , then have to do dry brushing, and finish up all the details on head mouth, eyes, horns, and all the other spikes and claws.

I've had a slightly different problem that I really need to guard against in future builds: painting it "just right" at first - only to see the final color get too dark after applying the oil washes. (If you look at my Cyclops vs Dragon dio of 4 years ago, I 'solved' that problem in a manner of speaking by tweaking the hue/tint of the pics to make the Dragon look it look like it SHOULD have looked - ie more vivid, lighter green in color - than it actually appears in real life.)

Replaced all the bone spurs along top of neck, on back and along tail with spikes.
Still need to sharpen up these new spikes.
Removed bone spurs from lower neck.
Replaced segmented neck design for smoother look.
Plan to paint all spikes and wing armor black versus bone colored scheme.

Thanks !
Adding all those spikes took quite a bit of time. And I still have a little work to do on them.
Hopefully I can finish up the painting soon…

You'll get it half painted then decide to resculpt something.

Seriously though, this is looking killer.

I'm sure that your wife appreciates how your incessant re-sculpting of your bashes keeps you off of going on ebay looking for more kits to buy!! :rolf:

... speaking of which ... hoping there will soon be an "in progress" thread for that Klingon Bird of Prey I helped to hook you up with ...

Oh trust me, my frequent reworking does not stop my continuous search/acquisition of new kits :D

Regarding the KBOP, I am waiting for a custom stand, power supply and lighting system to be delivered.

And also, my sincere thanks to everyone who is following this dragon bash.

adding detail to the base of each and every spike to make it look like it is coming out from beneath the skin.
Just roughed in so far, still have much refining to do.
Have to clean up spikes too.
Very tedious work, but hopefully it will be worth it when dry brushing brings out all these details.

Color turned out looking like mud ….as usual.
So, I am giving up on the reddish color scheme and took it back to primer .
At least you can see the details better with the primer.
Maybe I will go with a black and grey scheme similar to the original fell beast statue color?
I pretty much hate the f%#@ing painting phase of kitbashing ….

Well. That was inevitable (wasn't it?)

Back to the old drawing board. Can't wait to see the new scheme.
