Thinkgeek infinite dungeon corridor

#1 Post by jgoldader »

Time to give something back!

I stumbled on the "Infinite Dungeon Corridor" at Thinkgeek and instantly thought of using it as part of a diorama.

http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/16a2/? ... 20corridor

This $20 product uses a mirror and half-silvered mirror to produce the "infinity mirror" illusion of a dungeon corridor illuminated by flickering torches. The opening is about 5.5"H x 3.5"W and the overall size is 9.5"H x 7"W. The torches are lit by LEDs powered by 3 AA batteries.

The small size makes it appropriate for about 1/12 scale or smaller figures, or it could be used in forced perspective displays or photography.

Mine works nicely, though I had to take it apart and reglue the nut for the screw that holds the battery door closed.

While the thing is too small for large figures, the idea could be fairly easily scaled up. I've seen people suggest using auto glass mirrored sheet (like Black Magic Professional Window Tint, available in the US from Pep Boys) applied to plexiglas. Or you can get 2-way mirrored 1/8" plexiglas cut to 12"x24" for about $44 + S/H from here:

You can get candle-flicker LEDs from Evil Mad Scientist at:

I could imagine doing this with the Moebius Frankenstein's monster, or their Dracula.

Hope this gives some ideas!

I bought one of these during the Christmas sales. It's actually a mighty cool way to extend your diorama scene! A little repaint on the stonework frame and it'll look great! But you're right in that the scale is kind of small. It might work well with Monster Scenes figures.

CALM DOWN. It's only a hobby.

Oh, and MODEL ON!
