More than impressive.....I concur with the favourite of yours.....at first glance, I almost did not see the actual meaning of the piece, and when it kicked in, I was looking to see if there were a third incarnation.....thanks for posting this....I will look for more of Yamada's work.. :D

These are absolutely incredible!

I remember going to the SCAHMS shows in southern Cal and seeing some of the huge, detailed dioramas those guys would do. Always blew me away.

Here's one of this books, you can get it on Amazon:

Another title is "TAKUJI YAMADA'S DIORAMA WORKS Vol.2" which you can usually get on ebay.

OMG, now I've got to go back to school. The workmanship, attention to detail, and just plain gorgeousness of every place one looks, is so far over the top ... How does one think with so much detail in mind. You must sleep very well at night ... Love the tiny diorama, in the diorama of the diorama ... Brilliant!

Thanks so much for being on the planet ... Look forward to everything you touch.

@ Richard: None of that is my work. I really wish it was, but I'm nowhere near that talented.

Takuji Yamada and Ichiyo Haga are the ones who did them. Yamada did do the one of the diorama in the diorama in the diorama. That's my favourite, too.

Really incredible work.
Love the whimsical ones with the kids looking at model kits and the artist showing off a sculpture of himself.

Seen some of these before. Always a pleasure to have a look again. Practice, patience, the infamous "10,000 hours" even leading up to be able to do these kinds of projects, talent.......that's some of what it takes to get to this level!
