Questions about wonderfest model contest
I am hoping to go to wonderfest next year and enter some of my creations in the model contest.
I have a few questions about the contest.
Is it acceptable to enter:
1. A prepainted statue that I have completely repainted different than original.
2. A prepainted statue that I have significantly modified/bashed and repainted differently.
3. Models that I previously entered in wonderfest contest many years ago and won bronze awards; but that I have since reworked and (hopefully) improved the paint job; with hopes of possibly placing higher this time ?
Thanks!

Re: Questions about wonderfest model contest
I'm not sure about the first two, but I have done that last one a few times myself without anyone raising an eyebrow.

I usually have my WF questions answered by contacting them directly through their website. Response times are very quick.

Re: Questions about wonderfest model contest
OK…my 2 cents….
On points 1 & 2, I would suggest taking a photo of what you started with and submitting it with your entry documentation. If you do a total re-paint, or re-shape show the unaltered statue in a coat of primer as proof that everything the judges now see on your entry is the result of your modeling skills. That gives them a true baseline to fairly measure how & what you did to the piece and how it measures up to the competition on the table.
On point 3, I would have to say no. I feel that in juried model competitions, you pull the trigger, enter a piece in a particular contest, and it (may or may not) get what it gets. A first, second, third, bronze, silver or gold. If it places, it’s done (for that particular show). Other contests are still fair game though. Wonderfest is like other model competitions in this regard. The rules clearly state, “Winning models from past WonderFest model contests may not be re-entered.” Case closed.
The evolution of your modeling skills should be applied to your next new project. I have a couple of models that improved over several years of work (and evolving skill levels) before I felt they were ready to enter into the contest. That patience paid off because when I decided they were finally ready and entered them in the show, they won metals.
Like I said....my two cents.....
Cheers!

I missed that part of his post.
The ones I re-entered didn't get anything when first entered.. So they got basically a total rework. Still don't think any of them got anything after the much improved seam work and new paint.
They look good to me though, and don't make me cringe when I look at them on the shelf.
