Monster Make-up Book from ages past

#1 Post by DoctorG »

All,

I was reminiscing the other day about a book that I used to check out repeatedly from our local library when growing up outside of Chicago in the '70s, and I was curious if anyone can help me identify it. It was a large, coffee-table sized volume that described a lot of the movie monster make-ups from the '20's, '30's and '40's. Stuck in my mind is a description of Lon Chaney Sr.'s make-up for The Phantom of the Opera detailing how he used fishing line to extend his nose upwards to create that hollow, skeletal look. The book really fascinated me as a kid and probably got me hooked on monsters about the same time that the Aurora kits were in full swing. It would be cool to see if I could locate a copy of this and relive those memories.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, comments, leads, etc.
Dr. G.
