Re: Books. What are you reading?
I'm listening to an audiobook recording of Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and (the late, great) Sir Terry Pratchett. I've read it before, but after seeing some stills from the upcoming movie featuring David Tennant, I had to give the audiobook a try. So far the story is as hilariously good as I remembered, but the performance is a little below par. Not bad...just not as good as I'd hoped for.

Yeah, it's been a long while for me as well... just have to find the damn thing!Stormheart wrote:I'm listening to an audiobook recording of Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and (the late, great) Sir Terry Pratchett. I've read it before,
Just finished 'Red Shirts' by John Salzi <sp?>. Light hearted
reading.
Now reading "Nine Old Men" ... about the old Walt Disney artists that started
it all w/ Walt. The illustrations, even on a kindle edition, are fantastic!
Also just d/l'd a book by Gil Kane called "Sparring with Gil Kane: Colloquies on Comic
Art and Aesthetics" which looks good and can't wait to get to.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
oh, also finished Simak's 'CITY'... been ages since I read it and
still as good as ever!!
It's probably more relevant today then when it was written.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
I just finished reading some trade paperbacks of the 1966 TV Batman Meets ... where he teams up with several other TV characters from that era, and Wonder Woman/Bionic Woman team ups, and really enjoyed them, although most of the artwork was not anywhere close to the standards set in the 1960's comics. Still very enjoyable for me though.
After that, the reading bug was still with me so I just received 12 interesting sounding team up TPB's. Star Trek/Green Lantern, Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern, DC/Looney Tunes, DC/Hanna-Barbera, DC/Scooby Do, Lone Ranger/Green Hornet, Johnny Quest/other Hanna-Barbera characters, and I'll be looking out for more. I might even go for the Archie zombie apocalypse TPB's and the Scooby Do zombie apocalypse books.
I've read little the last few years but it's bugged me, and now that I can get to my books again (after I clean up a big piece of my basement, I can get to them once again. Have several books I still want to read but wife and daughter filled up the aisles between my kits, books, etc. and I haven't been able to get to them for the last few years.
A recent episode of Supernatural really surprised me. The Winchesters got pulled into the cartoon Scooby Do world and I couldn't believe it! It was very cool and fun to watch.
These new crossovers are fun though and I'm going to enjoy the latest batch!

Re: Books. What are you reading?
Just finished Stilleto by Daniel O'Malley (2nd book in the Rook series)
5 stars! and thanks to whomever recommended Rook awhile back! Can't
wait til more in the series!
1/2 thru David Wong's "Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits" (3rd in the
John Dies in the End series) also very good in the Douglas Adams vein
of writing.
also finished, if you're into old comic artists... Sparring with Gil Kane: Colloquies on Comic Art
and Aesthetics. A collection of interviews w/ Gil and other greats... Wally Wood, Simonson,
Hal Foster etc.
Have to admit, although a huge G. Kane fan (happy birthday today btw), I lost some respect
for him reading this book. Comes off as a hypocrite and elitist. Says alot but actually
says nothing that makes any sense. (read some paragraphs 4 times and either I'm a stupid
SOB or he just talks to hear himself talk) YMMV of course.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
finished reading The Fifty-Year Mission: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized
Oral History of Star Trek: The First 25 Years.
A very enjoyable read! There's a 2nd volume out... but besides a few DS9
episodes and TNG series... never liked the ST:V or ST:E series, so not
as interested in the later histories. So will probably give it a miss.
But for those who love TOS, do yourselves a favor and give it a read!
now on to the 3rd in the 'John Dies In The End' book!

Re: Books. What are you reading?
The last time I was in the book store I picked up A tree grows in Brooklyn.. it was on the recommended table, I liked the title and the cover so I went outside my comfort zone... Glad I did, I thought it was amazing.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
I had to read that in 11th grade English. Wasn't thrilled, having just
suffered thru "Great Expectations', but enjoyed it in the end.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
If I had to read it in school I probably would have hated it... due to the fact I was told to read it. .Buc Wheat wrote:I had to read that in 11th grade English. Wasn't thrilled, having just

I think the reason I liked it so much is that I knew nothing about it..

Just got done spraying the weeds. Now time to lay in the hammock and read this. Seemed appropriate.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
Well finished it the other week while camping.. nothing like the movie that I remember. enjoyed it.
Started reading Hellboy Emerald Hell by Tom Piccirilli..got about half way through when it got soaked in my tent
so while waiting for a new one I started to reread Farenheight 451...I think Bradbury was a time traveler.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
I haven't read PJF in a LONG while! He was my #1 favorite growing up!highwayman57 wrote:Currently re-reading Philip Jose Farmer's Tarzan Alive!; still holds up after all these years.
Maybe it's time to return to his Tier Worlds!
Did go revisit ol' Clifford D. Simak and enjoyed a week w/ 'City' and 'Way Station'.
He still writes an extremely enjoyable tale. Have about 4 vol's of his short stories
to look fwd to once again, soon.
Also recently finished a bio on Walt Disney. Fantastic man.
