Re: Books. What are you reading?
Just finished JL Bournes Shattered Hourglass.
It's different in it's story telling than the last two (not a journal) and I really enjoyed it.
I thought it'd be hokey with the "alien" aspect but it still came out pretty good and entertaining.
Only complaint, too short and too long between publishing.
Think I'll hit John Dies At The End next. My 13 yr old just read it and she was laughing her butt off the whole time.

Just finished The Horror Book of Lists. I have always enjoyed the old Book of Lists and the People's Almanac, so this was fun.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
"I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" by Tucker Max. My son (22) had it in a stack. While this goes against everything I 'now' believe, I was a bad boy in my youth.
This is probably the absolute funniest 5hit I can recall EVER reading. Cut to the chase and go to "The Austin Road Trip" story!!!!
WARNING! Disturbingly Graphic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Books. What are you reading?
Finished "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi. If one had never read
RAH's 'Starship Troopers' or Steakly's 'Armour', they'd probably
like it much more.
Wasn't bad. But try the others.
3/4ths thru ERB's 'Llana of Gathol' and also started Mike Holley's 'War Room'

Received a new book for my birthday from my daughter and son-in-law...
Argo: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled Off the Most Audacious Rescue in History by Tony Mendez (the CIA agent who came up with the idea for the rescue and went to Iran to pull it off) and Matt Baglio.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
Just finished John Dies At The End and picked up This Book Is Full Of Spiders.
Loved JDATE, awsome reading.
Also picked up Lee Marvin:Point Blanck while I was at Indigo. And the new Mad Mag came in the mail
the other day so I'll be busy for awhile.

i thought that since this is the labelled as the rift war cycle it would be only linked to the first 3 books.Stonie104 wrote: Not sure if you've read the entire series but this is the books in order.... theres a few...

Re: Books. What are you reading?
I just started The Last Battle by Stephen Harding. It's the true story of a battle in the waning days of WW II in Europe, when American soldiers fought alongside German soldiers to protect a castle in Austria from SS troops sent to slaughter the V.I.P. French prisoners that were kept there.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
Was reading War Room by Michale Holley, which is suppose to be
about Bellichick and his 'perfect team' (Yo Mikey... we lost the
MOST important game to those #$%@&! 'iants!!? Perfect isn't the
word I'd use here!) (excuse me while I sob in the corner!)
Anyways, I was hoping it would go deep behind the scenes and give
us great tidbits about the inner workings of Big Bill. But I got
halfway thru it and so far there's nothing in there that you haven't
read in newspapers. (hate that!)
1/2 thru I get a huge chapter about the Altanta Falcons and the Vick
BS. Why do I care about the freekin' Falcons in a book supposedly about
my Pats?!?
So it's sitting half read back on the 'to read pile'!
Marvel Comics: The Untold Story by Sean Howe
Just got this in and about 130 pgs in. Stan Lee is a dick, man!!
Some good stuff in here. Good to read about some of the old greats
that I grew up reading & drooling over as a yout'!
My son passed me over issues 1-300 of the Amazing Spider-man comics,
and at first I didn't think I'd read them. But I'm on issue 136 now and
enjoying the frak outta them!!
Spend more time looking at the classifieds and seeing early CBG ads
or a Phil Sheuling comic-con announcement or seeing a famous name
writing in! Anyone remember 'WE'... if you put a WE stamp on your ad
you were telling everyone you were reliable and a safe seller!! lol
Love it!
If you're a 50's/60's kid and get a chance to get your hands on all
these classics, jump on it! Alot more fun than I ever expected!!
John Dies at the End - David Wong
Watched the movie on Netflix last month and folks say the book is
even better. So have this to read next.

Re: Books. What are you reading?
Hi Everyone.
I am working my way through Wilbur Smith's books at the moment. If you have never picked one up before, I urge you to give him a go. He is brilliant. He wrote his first novel in 1964 ( funnily enough, the year I was born ) and it is called 'When the Lion feeds'. It is a Courtney family novel. Smith was born in Africa and so his books are all African based. He covers many centuries within his books and whilst sometimes brutal and graphic, you have to admire his mastery of the literary world. Please read 'When the Lion feeds' and I guarentee you will want to read the next Courtney book, and the next, and the next...........then the Ballantyne novels......then....well I am reading the last Ballantyne at the moment and I will be so sad....but then hey, there are about another 20 or more books to go...
Wilbur Smith's books are sold worldwide and about 120 million books have been sold....enough to fill Wembley Stadium twice.......
After reading this, I hope I have found someone else that will be as hooked as I am on Wilbur Smith's brilliant mind.
Thanks
Ant

Just read the graphic novel of The Keep by F. Paul Williams
Interesting forward where he discusses how much he was disappointed with the movie. And that he made a graphic novel as a way to visually show his story.

That actually sounds pretty cool. I need to see that movie again, it's been ages (love Michael Mann).jasonjaconetti wrote:Just read the graphic novel of The Keep by F. Paul Williams

Finished This Book Is Full Of Spiders and loved it. Kinda torn between that and John Dies as to which one is better.
After that I read Lee Marvin:Point Blank. Thought it was pretty cool, lotta stuff I didn't know but I was hoping they'd talk about his movies a little more and talk to more people he starred with.
Now I'm reading Peter Cushing, The Complete Memoirs.
