Kitbashed 1/30 Kaiyodo Camarasaurus

#1 Post by bucketfoot-al »

Kaiyodo Dinoland 1/30 Camarasaurus kit (sculpted by Shinobu Matsumura). I modified it by re-positioning the neck and the tail, sculpting-in areas with Quickplastic putty and painting with acrylic paint, oil washes, and sealed with matte spray sealant.

That looks great.
Can't even tell it was modified.
And I love the color scheme and pattern you used.

Looks like it was originally meant to be that way - great work again !
See my model kit collection on YouTube Model Club TV Episode 86
See my kitbash work-in-progress pics in the Kustomizers section of the clubhouse
Thanks for looking !

Thank you Tay666 and barad_dur!!!!

Yes, the original kit needed some tweaking to make it more realistic. I could have beefed up the neck, but I wasn't trying for a 100% accurate look, just a more natural pose with the tail held nigher and the head lowered a bit from the original. Those early 1990s Kaiyodo Araki vinyl kits tended to have impossible poses sometimes ...

Trev - the color pattern is based on the Wild Safari Camarasaurus. Its funny - I can look at three figures and immediately get an idea how to kitbash them together, but on paint jobs I draw a blank. The way I've overcome that is to search the web for a pattern (usually either a painting or a figure) that I like and that is not too intimidating - then I start copying it. I have found that I CAN deviate and add my own touches so long as I have a paint "matrix" to look at .... BTW, look for a new thread in The Workbench for a new huge resin kit I starting on later tonight.

I hear you on drawing a blank for colors and patterns and having to go look for inspiration.

I've got a larger kit on the bench right now that I am using my paint program to decide on colors.
Too big to keep repainting, so I am trying to get something I like before I start.

Thanks Bill! That oil wash technique you taught me really enhances every paint up! As usual lately, I used two washes - first an earth-red tone and when that dried, a black oil wash over it.
