LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - KONG 1.2!!! (or Here we Go Again)

#1 Post by bucketfoot-al »

Well, the kitbash of the kitbash is FINITO!!! :hot: \:D/  :jam: :bannana: :gulp: :reddance:

8" of PVC pipe was added to the bottom, on which a third row of light panels was added, with some design flourishes at the bottom .... its now 40" TALL and "proper" ... it no longer bugs me when I look at it ... so it is FINALLY DONE!!! :mrgreen2: :jester:

Kong is now DOMINATING the alcove (instead of the other way around) ...

The new taller version does look much better in that alcove space!

Congrats on a very successful modification of your original bash!

Great (and patient) work on a cool looking extended display.

Nice pics too!

Thank you gentlemen! This kit became an obsession as it grew, and now, after 4 months of (almost) non-stop work on it, I am relieved that it is finally over with ... I'll take a couple of days to decompress, pat myself on the back every time I see it, and then go to work on that Patagotitan kit ... which seems much less intimidating when compared to this ... THING  ...

Oh yeah - I do owe y'all some pics of the light panels glowing under a black light...I'll get around to that soon...

Last but not least, as promised, a couple of photos of the tower under a black light lamp, to illustrate the Neon colors glowing effect. This is real difficult to photograph, because what to the naked eye appear as rich, deep colors - literally like a lantern glowing from the inside - can easily appear washed out in pics due to the inadequate camera ... but I did my best ...

I don't want to worry you Vlad - but I think Kong decided to do a runner after that 1st shot (not a fan of having his photo taken perhaps?) Image

Thanks Spike! I think that this has been my most personally rewarding kitbash to date!

Usually my final kitbashed product comes up a little short in some way from what I originally envisioned ... but in this one case, however, once I pulled out all the stops and extended it to its current height - it wildly exceeded all my expectations - like I told my wife yesterday: I am a mere part-time dabbler compared to the great builders/painters of the hobby - *BUT* - in this one case I think that I created something that is worthy of interest ...

... I am not setting any goals or expecting to match this result with future bashes ... sometimes it just "happens" when you run with it, but this one was really unique in that regard ... if it winds up being my finest kitbashing work (as it almost certainly will) ... I can definitely live with that!
