THE CLUBHOUSE

I hate being all bent over the desk plus I can't see the TV when I am working so I built this over the weekend to go along with my New Years resolution to SCULPT MORE.
The Stool I had in the garage but you can get them for about $15
The center pipe is 3/4" x 30" galvanized - Lowes for $9
The reason I picked that pipe is because there was a floor flange that matched it.
Floor Flange - Lowes $5
I drilled three holes in the pipe and cut the head off of a bolt. Slide the pipe to where you want and insert the bolt and the top will even rotate.
I loved it so much I sculpted all day Sunday

In the store today, I saw a lady returning a stool just like that one and I was about to say "Hey! Don't return that, you can make a good sculpting stand out of it like Steve did!"

Then I figured that she and the customer service lady would think I was weird, so I said nothing.

That stool has been threw the ringer, it served as a workbench in the garage for the last two years. I sanded it because it had epoxy all over the top and you can see where I was welding on it and it caught on fire, and cutting boards and ended up cutting it also.
It has character now.

Can we all stop saying "stool"?

It's amazing what one can do with a good stool!

Thanks Garyo37388. I found the one on dick blick seconds before I built mine I also found a link to somebody that has a similiar build but took the extra steps to make it museum quality with copper tubing.

Since Gary was kind enough to point out your cost savings, that means you have $171.00 to $271.00 that you have to go spend on something else now. Well, that's how the government would look at it anyway.

Quite a few years ago, I needed a 3 legged stand for some stuff I was doing at a medieval fair. It had to be stable on uneven ground without having modern adjustable feet, and hold a full size water-clay bust (heavy). I saw a cheap (think home decor rather than actual) wooden piano stool, but it gave me the idea to fashion my stand after. I picked up a 24 inch round precut table top, as well as two 12 inch round; some 2x2's, some long all-purpose wood screws, 3 table leg brackets (with a slight angled mount), a length of galvanized pipe and a floor flange. Assembly was simple. It has a wide stable footing, and has been very reliable. I don't remember the cost of the parts, but it still was considerably less than the commercial models.
