Travelers to unknown regions would be well-advised to take along the family dog. He could just save you from entering the wrong gate.

I can only speak to my experience. I was contacted by them. I suppose you could simply submit an article for their consideration. However, it does state on the contents page that there is no compensation for submitted items and all submissions become their property. You could also try to get in touch with them and ask. Although getting a hold of them can be hit and miss, and miss, and miss.

Re: What are the requirements to get into KB mag
The easiest way to get into ANY mag is to get people talking about your work. Sure, having some "hardware" (awards/medals, whatever) to back it up helps, and that is the over-riding factor. That, or excellently written, documented (with photos) "How To" articles written on forums, of that caliber of work.
Just keep in mind that once you make that step, wherever it falls, your work will be subject to the "scrutiny of the masses" (and every JackHole that has an opinion about it). When I say that, I don't just mean how well you build and paint, but how well you are able to explain what you've done, and why...
And all of that for maybe a few kits that you may or may not like, a free ad or 2 (whatever you are selling), and a byline in the mag...
The question becomes (given your post about commissions): "How much do I want my JOB to be my hobby?" Are you willing to give up ANY amount of the joy you derive from building and painting kits just for a bit of notoriety? Basically, unless you are ready to sacrifice your hobby to make it a "living", I don't see it as fair trade, UNLESS you meticulously record every build-up and document it as routine practice, AND, you are really interested in sharing your techniques with the masses.
This is by no means an indictment of any mag or writer, their intentions, or whatever. I have nothing but appreciation for the guys who do it for any book, but I also understand the sacrifices they might or might not make in order to get their info, perspective, and process out to us who read it...

Thanks Bubba that was very informative. I am not looking for a lot of notoriety, I literally just think it would be fun to see a build up article of mine in a magazine! I really appreciate the response!
