Sotar 20/20 questions

#1 Post by Stonie104 »

HI guys,

just a couple of quick questions about the Sotar 20/20 airbrush, I've had one sitting in the box for over a year now I bought off a fellow member, and was just wondering can you buy a lid for the paint cup?

Also I currently use a Iwata HP C plus and the hose that fits the Iwata fits straight onto my compressor, the hose for the iwata doesn't fit the sotar 20/20 could somone let me know what size hose does fit it? and also maybe any UK members recommend a supplier to get the hose and an adaptor for my compressor from? many thanks

Dan

I've never seen a paint cup cover for the Sotar 20/20, either from Badger or any third party.

I have one of the standard quick-disconnects on my AB hose that works with my Sotar 20/20 and my new H&S Infinity. I'm REALLY liking the Infinity--it sprays remarkably well and is engineered a lot better than the Sotar IMHO :)

I had a Sotar as well, I think I had to get a hose for it from Badger if I remember right. I have never seen a paint cup cover for one either. To be honest I didnt care for the Sotar...had tons of trouble with it clogging up constantly, and when it did run the fine line detail was not what I expected. My cheap Master airbrush ran way better and could do much much finer detail than the Sotar....I would not buy another one.

I have a few different airbrushes and one Paasche hose. I bought the conversion fittings on ebay. I'm sorry I don't remember the size for the Badger thread.

Here ya go:

There's no lid available for the paint cup - which is just about the only thing I haven't liked about my Sotar. I got mine at Kitbuilders University a few years back, and I've used the hell out of it since. The needles are cheap and it's fairly easy to clean.

@Indiana - if you're having trouble with yours, I'd send it to Badger. They're always treated me pretty well with product support.

Got a cheap adaptor for my current hose to connect to the Sotar so thats sorted.

I'm dissapointed there is no lid option, I tend to get a bit crazy when I airbrush and imagine I'm going to cover myself in paint, so I'll probably cover the lid with a bit of tape with a tiny hole through it to avoid spillage :D

Yeah I sent it to them once...got it back (or may have been a different one) and still had same trouble with it. Thinned the paint down to skimmed milk consistency , strained it (twice) and it still clogged up. To get it to run decent the paint had to be thinned so much that you werent even hardly putting any color down when you sprayed with it. That was enough for me...I ended up selling it dirt cheap with the understanding that it had issues.

I haven't had any issues with my Sotar 20/20 other than I prefer Iwata airbrushes more. Just easier to clean and I think they're built better. But I use my Sotar every now and then so it doesn't collect too much dust. :D

"Heck," I have 3 Sotar 20/20 air brushes and 1 Model Master airbrush. Sure they all clog up now and then depending on the type of paint you use and the consistancy of the paint. I have to admit that I have had the most problems with my Model Master airbrush clogging up, and it can be a pain to clean up, and I'm not to crazy about the plastic spray tips and there inner components. Another thing is harsh solvents can damage the tips, if you not real careful cleaning these type of spay tips they can be damaged very easily. The Sotar Spray tips are well constucted and can withstand harsh cleaners to remove dried paint that builds up in the tips. I agree that it would be nice if there was a cover avalable for the Sotar 20/20 paint cups.
