Marillion: Sounds That Can't Be Made

#1 Post by ellenbethsdad »

Got the new album yesterday:

I've not been impressed with the last 3 albums so I was really, really wanting this to be better. I wanted Rothery back to his best, I wanted melodic, flowing guitar that made him Rothery. [-o<
I wanted Hogarths voice to be less ragged, no more of the shouty stuff with high range that he just cannot reach these days.
I wanted it to be classic Marillion I suppose [-o< [-o< [-o<

I didn't get it
Rothery's got a couple of nice solo's.
Hogarth's voice is still croaky, and the lyrics?, bloody hell the lyrics are just plain awful . I swear on Montreal he's just reading along to a entry from his diary, it's terrible.
I'm gutted,
Marillion, the band that changd my life, RIP :beatdeadhorse:

A lot like the new Rush album... they (we) are getting older and it's just not the same as it was in the good old days. Look at Van Halen; they tried to recapture the old magic with David Lee Roth and when they went on tour, they were exhausted after only a handful of shows!

There are a lot of very talented new bands out there that are doing a good job keeping me entertained, though.

pete this is sad,i bought marillions marbles 2 disc and loved it then i bought somewhere else and liked that too.for some reason passed on happiness, think i checked you tube and found nothing new.the new cd doesnt even make me want to buy it.i will wait for the single to see i suppose or youtube again to listen. its a shame as to me marillion letting hogarth have all his own way last few years it seams.sadly fish as gone the talkie singing as well.i'd rather they attempt to sing and be half good that talk it through and sound #$#$#$#!

I just don't understand the change of sound. If you have an identity what's wrong with that?.
I didn't buy the pre-order, it's too expensive and a gamble for something I might not like, and I'm not even going too any of the gigs this week, and I've done over 100 Marillion gigs.

It's sad, it's like splitting up with your first girlfriend
It's currently stuck on the shelf in our house and has been affectionatley titled " Sounds Like #$#$#$# To Me".
