Repliscale alternative?

#1 Post by boba flint »

Hello,
I just found out that repliscale has been discontinued. Is there something else that can be used?

Thanks

This was going to be the first time I tried this stuff. I placed an order a week ago, I called today to get an update on my order. That is when he told me had discontinued the product a month ago and would no longer carry it. He did refund my money.

Funny you mention this Boba Flint since someone just posted about Repliscale in another thread in the Members Swap and Sale section, and I noticed a couple of alternative products;

There is a type of latex that model railroaders paint on rocks and such, and after a few layers it's thick enough to peel off of the rock and make casts. I *think* it's called Mountains in Minutes, but don't really remember. Just look for liquid latex at a model railroad site. HTH.

Shame to see Repliscale discontinued, I think I have a few tubs left but will have to figure out what to use after the last one runs out.

I just bought some fast-setting silicone putty off amazon and the stuff works great. Plus you get quite a bit of it. Should last a while.

Hope that helps.

"Mold Builder" is liquid latex and can be found at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I've used it for years to make texture stamps for my dinos. Just put a couple of layers on a spot to build it up and viola - you have a texture stamp!

http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/mol ... tex-30452/

Also - just got back from iHobby and several vendors were selling flexible mold materials s that can be reused by reheating. I immediately thougth of using it to make texture stamps.

BTW - Mountains in Minutes is a 2-part foam used to make mountains (duh) and fill in vinyl kits. Never seen it used for texture stamps.

Hi Rob,

You're right. The stuff you illustrated is what I was thinking about. Just couldn't remember the name and MIN was what jumped into my head. Apologies all.

This is Dewey Cheatem, the attorney representing the individual you all call -

"Crazy Joe" -

It is my obligation to inform you that upon hearing the news of the discontinuation of said "Repliscale", my client became despondent and unresponsive to all attempts to revive him. Since I have all of his passwords and his POA, I am authorized to view all of his online contacts and accounts, and thought I would post a reply to Mr. Beavren's accurate assessment of the situation.

However, I am going to visit Mr. CJ tomorrow, and whisper "Tank Girl by Sean Buford" in an attempt to rouse my client. I'm confident that this will work.

Keep your thoughts and prayers going for your online comrade...

Here ya go fellas...a nearly identical product except it's blue, and it keeps well as I have texture stamps from 5 years ago with no signs of wear.

I've never used Repliscale. I've had a good experience with Silpack's Silputty 40, it's been great for texture stamps and waste molds. Its a platinum based silicone, so no sulfur stuff.

Is it stiff when it dries up? I'd like something rubbery so that I can get around skin folds on the sculpture.

Hey, guys, not to hijack the topic, but, is there a detailed step by step on how to use this stuff? One of my biggest "I gotta get better" issues is seam lines, most of the time, I wind up destroying wonderfully sculpted detail trying to hide a seam. I'd prolly be better off doing nothing, but, the IPMS in me just cannot abide a seam.....which is funny, cuz I cannot abide a huge, smooth spot either. If any of you would be so inclined to get a good step by step made up, maybe we could get it pinned up top?
