Lu Feng Shan Corythosaurus painted

#1 Post by wendigo00 »

Our dino modelling community is so small, it is likely redundant to post this here as most of you probably saw these pics on FB, but just in case, here are some shots of my paint-up of Shan's great sculpt. I added a bit of Aves to the crown to suit my own vision of this animal, so if you think it looks whack, don't blame Shan. The one pic has a Ma K 1/20 figure (same scale as all Shan's dinos: 1/20) because I thought it was fun to see the relative size. I mostly used Floquil acrylics - Dr. Martin Spectralite - and pastels/pigment powders. I still hope to do a straightforward base with some plant life and such.

I thought your ceratopsian was the "bee's knees" but this is even more impressive. This is absolutely gorgeous!

Phenomenal work! And what a sculpt, too! The photo with the dude hitching a ride while taking a smoke just needs to be fuzzed up a tiny bit, the light adjusted - and it would look real!!

Amazing! Where did you get that figure? (I assume that you painted him up too?)

You guys are very kind. Thank you for the positive comments. As I joked the other day to a friend, I want to be Steve Riojas when I grow up. I have miles to go yet, but I'll keep trying!

So my strongly preferred scale in dinosaurs is 1/20 dating back to the Kaiyodo classics and now as carried on by Lu among others. I like being able to contemplate and appreciate relative size among the creatures. I also really like to have figures in or near my displays in the same scale to provide perspective. When I went searching for 1/20 people, I found that the Maschinen Kreiger (Ma K) world is principally 1/20 and has some amazing figures! I also like many of the armored fighting suits and equipment. The seated, smoking figure is an Ma K guy produced by a Korean outfit called Hexamodel. They have a web site and he is available for order. Here's a closer pic from when he was about 90% done with the painting:

Here he is posed with his armored fighting suit. In my back story, his name is Indy Coke, and so he added personal markings to his SAFS to make it into the the Coke machine (Maschinen) ;)

I just put him on the back of the Cory on lark when shooting pics so as to show scale. He is not a permanent part of my display.
