what to do in NY ?

#1 Post by GhostMurdock »

Calling out to all my USA fellow Clubhouse members and specially to the ones that know what is worth doing in New York :)

I ll be spending a week at the end of January there and would like some advice from people with a mind towards:
Comics, art, models, Statues, Garage kits, movies and whatever you want to suggest ... your favorite place to eat to visit and to go for fun!

Looking forward to your inputs ... i will tend send you feedback and ratings on all the advice i manage to follow :P

For comics and Statues I can recommend 2 places.
I is called Forbidden Planet....this is my favorite store It is located on broadway and east 12th st. Fantastic place
now down the block is one of the oldest used book stores called Strands. 3 floors of every book imaginable ...you can literally spend a day there.
now these 2 places are situated by a place called Union Square which is a very nice park ...small but depending on when you come a lot of Kiosk are set up from art to farmers market type of goods. Also situated if you walk south is the Village, where everything that happened in the 760 and 70's happened there ...it is not the same feeling but you can get a taste. Also over there is Washington Square park another City Iconic place.
Now the second comic place is called Midtown comics ,they are off 40th and 7th ave..2 blocks away from time square .
Times Square is Time Square ---Humongous Toys r Us , Hersey's etc.
to eat if you like Chinese food there is a staple place called Wo Hops 17 mott st been there forever or you can go to little Italy
great Italian places to eat.
Music you can check out the Iridium..also located in Time Square. I saw Les Paul there. He used to Play every Monday night.
small stage and seating with food .
And then you have the 9/11 memorial downtown.
I am sure many will chime in but here is a few

If you like museums there is the Museum Of Natural History an awesome place right across from Central Park, then there's The Metropolitan Museum Of Art also close to Central Park one of my favorite places ancient armor from knights and weapons, and you can walk through a recreation of a Egyptian tomb and see mummy's Of course I was there in the 90's.

Rockefeller Center is a fantastic place with an ice skating rink, and you can tour the entire place and even tour the history of broadcasting a great tour, and don't forget N Y has great pizza. Karl

Looks like you're getting some good advice. I'll add this one as a fun place worth visiting: https://www2.madametussauds.com/new-york/en/ It's walking distance from Midtown Comics and in a generally great area.

What you also can do (and it's free) is to take the ferry to Staten Island when the night is falling. You'll pass just beside the Statue of Liberty and when you arrive, you take the ferry to come back to Manhattan (now, it's night). Believe me Marco, you won't forget this view :D

Another thing i wouldn't miss, if you can rent a car for a day, is to go to the Frazetta Museum (about 2 hours from Manhattan, 90 miles) and get the opportunity of seeing many original paintings of the Master of the Masters.

Hehe, yep the SI Ferry gives good views of the NY skyline and the Statue of Liberty. And agree to turn around and get back on to come back. 'Cause God knows there's nothing worthwhile on SI. Been on SI for 40 years and dying to run away...
