That should help cut down on the multiple listings of the same posts.

Agreed. There are prolly more people on FB that I've unfollowed, than who I follow. It's a good feature b/c you don't geta "Hey, why did you unfriend me?" PM. I don't know how they keep track. If someone unfriended me I would never know...
As has been said my family is all over, so it's an easier way to keep track w/o resorting to calling them for an awkward 5 minute phone call.

Another great feature about Facebook is that you can block the troublemakers who constantly like to stir the pot.

For example, I blocked Buc months ago.

I didn't have much use for Facebook until I discovered the groups. Sure, some aspects of using them can be irritating but you do see a lot of interesting stuff which compensates for them.

For me... FB is still a bit of a mystery. I use it for family contacts... but I have signed up for some sites, but never figured out on how to go about buying something from someone. Only once did someone had a kit, they had for sale, but it took them so long to get back to me, I ended up buying it from a hobby site who had it instead. So this buying thing, well, let's say it is still up in the air to me.

Never needed a facebook account I find it pointless..
Just like chat rooms all the trolls out there .. forget it..
I went to facebook to see any news about my favorite bands
It yields very little .. usually obsessive fans posting snap shots
of screen grabs of old band photos ..
Facebook is self esteem booster for most..
It's one few reasons the internet sucks anymore...
That and entertainment websites piggy backing stories from each other..
I don't know been interweb since 2001 I'm rather bored
Burned some bridges there are always more to burn too.(:

heres my take ive been a member here since the very start, I used to spend a lot of time and effort on the place, now I don't I post very rarely, then there is Facebook, I post there every day often, the one big dufference between here and F/B is all my F/B contacts are Friends, people I actualy know or have met and had a drink and a chat with F/B encompasses my whole life, I,e hobby, work, school, and social friends, over here its just one small part of my life, all the people I like, trust, and respect on the C/H are on my friends list on F/B the rest are not indeed some I wouldn't have even if they asked, that is the reality of C/H and F/B on F/B you have total control who you interact with on this and other boards you dont

Facebook is what you make of it, and what you put into it. I can tell you without a moments hesitation that for me, it's expanded my sales exponentially, more so than any other medium, including online forums and hobby magazines.

I formed my own online group after a couple of bad experiences with "cliques" in a few groups. I'm way too old, and way to crotchety to put up with some of the juvenile behavior I saw in these groups, so I opted out of them and formed my own. I graduated Junior High School a long ass time ago, and I have no interest in revisiting it on FB.

If you don't want to participate on FB on a personal level, that's a personal choice, and I even agree with most of the opinions expressed in this thread. But, if you're a producer and you're not using FB to get word of your products out there, you're wasting a valuable (and more importantly FREE) resource, that has almost immediate results in feedback, opinions, and sales.

Several things that can be done on facebook to clean out a bunch of crap and be safer:
1) have a "personal" account (for family & "real" friends only)
2) a "fun" account (to surf the fun stuff without choking the personal account); this is where I subscribe to a lot of model groups, sci-fi groups, fan stuff, etc.
3) a "business" account to strictly conduct business such as what Marc was indicating; DO NOT express controversial opinions here not if you want to have a thriving business; keep it professional
4) don't invite everyone and his brother to be your friend for your "personal" account (sorry but no-one needs 2000 friends)
5) don't invite anyone other than your "personal" account to be your friend on your "fun" account, this leaves you the option to post to your "personal" account if you find anything cool you want to share. Use the "fun" account strictly for looking at the fun stuff without "offending" family or friends.
6) If you have a family member or friend get over zealous or offensive you can keep them as a friend but unfollow them.
7) Here is the tough one - on controversial hot topics refrain from comment when you can, chances no one is going to change their mind no matter how sound the argument may be.
8) Consider facebook is nothing more than a virtual bulletin board. Do not post anything on there that can come back to haunt you, no matter how secure you may think it is. Marriages, businesses, careers, even lives have been ruined because careless and thoughtless posting on there.
9) Do NOT post things like "enjoying" my Margarita in Mexico City. First most people could care less that you are enjoying a Margarita and second you just told someone you are not home, come clean out your house. You can share photos to those who care after you get back.
10) Be cautious posting family photos and information; this can fall into the wrong hands and become a really bad day.
11) Clean out your Internet History before and after you get on Facebook. It has tracking cookies and God knows what else. Ever wonder how they you were looking at an Star Wars DVD or RC Airplane?
12) And finally remember just because you are paranoid does not mean the world is not out to get you. LOL
Reality is for those who can not handle fantasy.

Useful advice from Pete.

Like or loathe Facebook, it's a very established platform used by many people to get stuff 'out there'. I'd still say that, from a modelling point of view, you get far a greater flow of current and up to date information on Facebook about new releases, sculptures, and start-up companies than you do on forums, excellent as many of them are.

You also get to see some terrific work by painters and sculptors that you might not come across elsewhere. This is especially true of Europe where, IMO, some of the best stuff comes from these days.

There are groups on Facebook for every kind of modeller. Personally I'd say these two groups on their own were worth going to the trouble of signing up:
