Crazy for X-O Facto's Psycho

#1 Post by derekc62 »

It took longer than originally planned (life always seems to get in the way of fun) but I finally finished John Tucky's and Jeff Yagher's Norman Bates.
As I posted in the Workbench section some time ago, I decided to go grey scale for this one - my first attempt going black and white.
With the variety of flesh tones on the market I find painting in natural color easier.
But while it was intimidating at first I just had to keep thinking light and shadow for the grey scale approach.
WIP photos are in the Workbench section.
Finished shots from my crappy old iPhone are below.

BTW, the wool texture for the blanket (the single biggest challenge on the kit if you opt for this look) was achieved using an Iwata HP-CH airbrush which has an airflow regulator located under the color cup. I dialed down the pressure to get the spatter effect and used greys, black and white for the "wool" look.

That's a home run right there! Greyscale looks great and the effect on the wool blanket looks awesome, well done!

Unbelievable work... Only other person I've seen achieve a look like that as effectively was the man himself, David Fisher. The wool blanket is just awesome. It's so attention grabbing. The gray scale also gives this a wicked creepy effect... Nice woik!
