Tournament Challenge

#1 Post by Spyda »

I don't normally paint my own stuff myself, since there's so many people who do such a great job. I can usually just have someone else paint so I can sculpt. But I had come up with some color sketches and decided to give it a go myself. i think it came out pretty well.

This is the paint job Jason Gares did. I really love how he went way out there and went with color options that I wouldn't have thought of. The base looks like molten glass and he went with a more sci fi space concept with metallic skin on the girl. That's what is great about sculpting kits. I get to see what other people lend to it as artists themselves.

Ditto.
While I get where Jason was going with it, and he executed it well, I prefer your rendition.
It just seem more natural, and realistic.

Thanks guys.
I do get a little intimidated because there's so many guy who paint every day. While I didn't ,\mean for this to seem like a competition, and hope it does not, I was hoping I was able to take enough care to not look too bad. When I showed my work to the pros at a company we all want to work for, hey had first seen my sculptures as I had painted, and then unpainted. they had told me never to paint my own work because they liked seeing it unpainted better than my painted samples. Anyway, I figured it would be better for me to hire other people to paint for me after that. But I did these color drawings and though that I might give it a try again. I do love what Jason did and he is clearly a more experienced painter than I am. I did need a sample of the colors I intended for box art and advertising. I hope to see many more variations of artists ideas on this piece. What people do with the sculpture is a true joy for me.

Yeah, I'm not knocking Jason's work.
I just prefer your rendition is all. Just a matter of personal taste.
