Jason Bourne

#1 Post by derekc62 »

I really have only one thing to say about this film and it's please don't let Paul Greengrass direct another Bourne film.
The first film directed by Doug Liman was great because that director understood action and how to show it on screen.
Greengrass seems ashamed to show the audience anything.
There's no comparison between the way the Bourne Identity was shot and any of the other three films (Ultimatum, Supremacy and this one) directed by Greengrass.
The editing is so fast and the camera movement so abrupt it almost gives the viewer a headache.
And how's this for cheating the audience: In the trailer for the latest film Bourne is seen in a bare-knuckle fight in the work yard knocking out his opponant with an elbow to the face. In the final cut we get a close-up of the back of Matt Damon's head just as the blow is delivered.
If you want the audience to see the work you've put in to a film then for crying out loud show the audience the work you've put in to a film!
Anyone remember the car chase from the first film? Driving the Mini down the stairs? Motorcycle cops chasing? A clear view of all the action? Yeah, no comparison to any of the other three films where the audience gets to see close-ups of actors faces and the interiors of some cars.
Doug Liman was EP on all three of Greengrass' films.
Someone please put Liman back in charge! (here endeth the rant :x )
(Hoping Suicide Squad will wash away the bad taste in the mouth)

I was sooooooo looking forward to this film.
I was sooooooo disappointed by it.
Everything you've said i agree with 100%.
A friend of mine and myself go to movies together about once a week, and both have noticed a trend in what we refer to as "shakey camera" syndrome...I think the director(s) use it to make it seem like you're actually there, but in reality it's just distracting, or in the case of this move, almost sickening
In this film it was so bad that we literally could not tell who was who or what was happening in most of the action scenes.
Had a decent plot, but we almost walked out because it was so hard to watch.

Same here. What a way to finish. I think Bourne had 7 lines in the whole film. The shakey camera angles were getting me sick, you couldn't see who was throwing blows because they kept zooming into the point of contact. I guess this story needed to be made to give you the full circle but it was not well made.

That's funny I felt the same. I was so looking forward to this and in the movie I felt like I was watching a music video. The screen changes every three to four seconds just like a music video would now days. Once I realized it I couldn't take my mind off of it and the headache set in. It is a shame because I didn't think the story line was that bad.
