Re: Did you see the Skull Island trailer?
I was only mildly interested in this project for a long time.
Mostly because of the eventual tie-in with the big guy in King Kong vs Godzilla.
But after seeing this new trailer, I am sold.
Will be there opening weekend to take it all in.

Re: Did you see the Skull Island trailer?
Looks very good, and with some A list actors.
Best of all its not a remake or re boot. Near as I can tell it has little or nothing to do with previous storylines.
BTW
About the time the Original King Kong was made two dashing young airmen flew deep into the wilds of New Guinea and recorded their discoveries of unknown tribes on film.
I've seen a documentary which used the original footage and interviews with surviving villagers they encountered, mostly old ladies that one of the intrepid explorers had intimate relations with when they were very young. Quite a real life adventure.
Perhaps that expedition was an inspiration for King Kong.

Re: Did you see the Skull Island trailer?
Thanks for the tip on the trailer, it showed a lot (spoiler alert). I have been very curious about how Kong himself was going to be conceptualized. First impressions: Looks like the bipedal style is in and the overall appearence is reminiscent of some of the bigfoot sculpts we've seen over the years. The other creatures are harder to determine and there might be a lot of surprises. Will absolutely go see it!
p.s. and of course looking forward to the many kits this film will give rise to.

Re: Did you see the Skull Island trailer?
More trailers are being released. The film (creatures especially) seems to draw from original Kong but also King Kong Vs Godzilla, which is very cool. Who would have thought that the lizard thing crawling up from the spider pit would be reinvented decades later. Kong is also seen battling something with tentacles too (a'la the Octopus from King Kong Vs Godzilla?). Haven't come across a detailed plot synopsis but the impression is that Skull Island is less a prehistoric relic refuge than a site of mutations. Or both, as Kong himself may represent an irradiated Gigantopithecus.
Toys are out too. The big Kong toy (looks a lot like the Baker maquette for the '76 version) is pretty nice and seems compatible with the large Godzilla 2014 toy. The other figures are the skull beast, spider and some sort of weird flying creature.
