Verizon going on the cheap and leave many of us to scramble

#1 Post by starmanmm »

Verizon is my internet provider, but now they have notified me that as of March 24th, they will no longer be providing an email account. Seriously, with the money that I pay them... they are being this stingy!

Now I have to find a new provider and transfer the accounts over to them.

But my question is that some sites don't want Outlook, gmail, etc.... they want the email of your provider. Well, my provider is no longer providing email. Now what am I to do?

Are you sure ? I also have Verizon and heard nothing. I searched and can't find anything regarding this policy.

I just logged onto my account and this is the message that I got....

Effective March 24, 2017, we'll no longer provide verizon.net email service. Other than this change, your Verizon service(s) won’t be affected.

We have two options for you to consider. Please review both options and take action today to avoid losing access to your email.

Option 1. Keep your current email address with AOL Mail.

Select Keep verizon.net email address to migrate to AOL Mail. By choosing this option you will:
•Keep your verizon.net email address
•Retain email, contacts and calendar(s) automatically

Keep verizon.net email address >

Option 2. Try another email provider.

Select Try another email provider to set up a new account with an email provider of your choosing like Outlook.com or Gmail. By choosing this option, you will:
•No longer be able to use your current verizon.net email address
•Need to manually move your email, contacts and calendar(s)

Try any other email provider >

If you wish to validate this notice, you may do so by visiting verizon.com and selecting Announcements under the Tools section at the bottom of the page.

Have questions? Visit our support pages at verizon.com/email.

Take action by March 24, 2017 or you’ll lose access to your verizon.net email account.

I wonder why some got the notice and others didn't. Hell, my system shut down because of a battery they installed in my garage went dead. Verizon wanted to charge me $98 for a house call and $35 for a battery. I did it myself for $18. Don't get me started on their cell phone charges.

Like I said... dropping the email platform but not reducing my bill for taking away something that I was getting with my internet.

Humm... any lawyers out there interested in some sort of class action for doing away with a service that they charged for and no longer providing... but for the same cost?

Yes, Verizon did buy AOL for $11 and a coupon for a Big Mac.

So, is CH one of those sites that may give me trouble with having an AOL email account and not one tied into my provider? I guess if so, what are the Admin thinking about this change?

Good, because I just made the change over to AOL. Love the ads in the emails!

Made the switch, kept the address, really don't see any difference, so far.

John,
Actually, I was unable to log in to "My Verizon" for days and eventually I called them and they did it over the phone.
