The Boys - Amazon Prime

#1 Post by Heavy Metal Spike »

.

Right - Imma gonna start this thread now - because I SHOULD have done this MONTHS ago.

All 8 episodes of Season 1 out today on Amazon Prime. Has already been renewed for Season 2.

Only watched E01 so far. I'm pissed with some of the changes from the Graphic Novel - but I'll get over it (I hope).

Urban is (as always) frakkin' magnificent.

Will post more when I come up for air.

Well that was all sorts of fun.

I was conflicted at a number of points when they made MASSIVE plot and character changes – but then realised it gave me a story I THOUGHT I knew, and added twists I DIDN’T.

Well impressed.

Could have done without “wee Hughie Campbell” suddenly being American – I mean – SERIOUSLY !?!?! – you might as well have made Frenchie frakkin’ WELSH !!!! (OK – that would have been worse).

Really pleased with how they handled this. Removed a lot of the OTT sexual stuff (trust me – they REALLY cut back!) yet still left it having teeth.

Advice for anyone who watches this – stay WELL away from the Wikipedia entry for the comics – there’s a MAJOR spoiler placed just where you don’t expect it (and I’m assuming they will keep THAT in for a later season).

Given how much they have adjusted things (in many ways for the better), I wonder how much of the other sub-plots from the comic will get brought in vs. dropped.

Casting, acting, directing, EVERYTHING about this earns a 10/10.

https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/1139 ... r-released#

Second season starts Fri 4th September (Amazon Prime Video again) with the 1st 3 episodes.

The remaining five episodes will air every Friday through October 9.

Watching season 1 again as a refresher - STILL amazing :jam:  :hot:

Based on posts, seems like not many Clubhouse types were interested, but for those that are - this is fun too! https://youtu.be/-ga1vh4LnVI?t=25

Season one was okay, i think if i hadn't been such a big fan of the books i would have liked it more. The real wee hughie is wee hughie's dad and wee hughie is american. (man that's a sentence you dont see everyday) And how the hell can there be no terror. And lastly i loved the over the top aspect that was removed here to make it more palatable to some.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

Been a weird night - various stuff I wasn't expecting to do which resulted in me getting through these (all released today) a bit later than planned.

Probably just as well they didn't release all EIGHT at the same time :)

Off the charts AGAIN. Some REAL shocks, and a plot that is starting to take on even more twists and turns.

Gobsmacked at how awesome this is.

          • Hell yeah!

    • "After receiving even further rave reviews from critics and scoring large viewership from audiences, Amazon is looking to keep The Boys‘ success train rolling as they have begun development on a spin-off series alongside a third season of its flagship.

Craig Rosenberg, an executive producer and writer on the main series, is writing the pilot for the potential spin-off and is set to act as showrunner and executive producer for the new project alongside main series’ creator Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures and Neal H. Moritz and Payun Shetty of Original Film, while Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television will produce.

The spin-off will be set in America’s only college for young adult superheroes, ineffectually referred to as supes, run by Vought International and is being described as “an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive supes as they put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test,” blending the pitfalls of a college series with the gritty competitive nature of The Hunger Games and heart, satire and raunch of the main series."

The reveals in these were really well done – and the progression is perfect. Character instability, backgrounds, morals, history and drives are fleshed-out, building a really varied tapestry for a world askew from ours but very identifiable.

MASSIVE moves away from the original comics while actually improving ideas to the point where even die-hard fans of the comics shouldn’t be upset. Plenty of easter-eggs & little nods for those fans too.

“Satire” is one of those words that I personally find difficult to define or apply – but if any show uses it – it’s THIS one.

Always skirting the borders of “OTT-ness”, and often jumping WAY over. It has (so far) avoided any temptation to follow the majority of output these days – and doesn’t preach “wokeness” at you in the name of entertainment. That’s actually a good reason to avoid the crap spouted in interviews by some of those involved – just enjoy the show for what it is – we don’t need the false exposition, false re-interpretation or virtue-signalling that a minority of them felt the need to spew after-the-fact.

There are only TWO shows I am currently watching . . . this and “Lovecraft Country” . . . and both are off-the-charts for quality.

Amazing, irreverent, clever, entertaining. SATIRE. You can’t wish for better than this.

I think I've guessed ONE major "shift of power" that will happen towards the end of next weeks episode (the finale of Season 2) . . . we will see

Now THAT is how you end a season. Thank Lemmy that Season 3 has already been greenlit (not to mention the spinoff).

Wow – just WOW! (* I know I used the same word last week - but I spelled it backwards this time *)

Really enjoyed it. And as Spike said Karl Urban is awesome in everything.
