Finally - Artomic's "The Man Who Laughs"

#1 Post by Tim Casey »

Finally, after the Post Office sent this rare kit to Canada instead of Boston, and then LOST it trying to rectify the situation, this baby is DONE!

Back in the nineties, I never thought I'd be good enough to paint this. I've improved since then!

A beautiful kit from Artomic. This was an awful lot of fun to tackle.

Have fun - and go build a model!

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. This was a lot of fun to build and paint - I didn't panic, even when I took everything out of the box and immediately broke the sword in two! =D>

This is really well done - excellent work. Knowing you share my hatred of airbrushes - how much of it was brushes versus air brush?

Nothing but hand brushes. I tend to do the main colors in multiple coats for all the pieces until they're solid-looking and then, when they're completely dry, either wash or dry-brush other colors over them. In this case it was all dry-brush (except for the face and hands - medium flesh solidly, then light flesh dry-brushed, then a dark flesh wash.)

I also used "deep taupe" for the shadows around the eyes this time. Ugliest color in the world, but it works really well for eye shade.

From the dictionary:

taupe |tōp|
noun
gray with a tinge of brown: [as modifier] : a taupe overcoat.

P.S. Don't get upset, air brush jockeys! I don't hate them, I just hate trying to use them. I admire you all!

I didn't realize you were the guy in Canada that got this kit by mistake. Thanks for being so honest in your attempts to get it to me!
