That song killed it live!Heavy Metal Spike wrote:tay666 wrote:
Just went off and listened to the album version (your link) - STILL a great track.
Also love the version of this on "Rock In Rio" (same tour) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyYo4N2tGCE (* EDIT - just listened to that too - so far that's half-hour well spent today *)
.
And Rio was a great show, though I prefer the video from the TV broadcast over the hyper-edited thing that Steve released officially (sorry, pet peeve of mine and many other fans)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaERpBS7A5I
That time was a perfect confluence of events in my life.
My kids were getting older, so they didn't require constant attention anymore.
I finally had gotten online in late 99.
I found the Maiden official site, and the forum attached to it. Learned of the return of Bruce and Adrian and loved the new album when it came out. I had really lost interest with them through most of the 90's. Didn't like hardly anything I had heard from them, but still loved the band for all they had done before. So this really renewed the spark. It also rekindled the spark for all other music too.
And got me going to concerts again. I had put that kind of stuff on hold while having the family and raising kids. Only went to 2 concerts during the 90's. And one of those was only because I got free tickets.
This really rekindled my love of live music. Coupled with the discovery of live bootlegs from finding some tracks on Napster. That turned the love into a passion.
Which I gladly passed on to my children by taking them to live shows.

LOL - Ian's been herding cats for the last couple of days so lost track of dates/releases
Thanks for the heads-up.
Multiple choice (since these seem to be all the rage for colleges right now) . . . pick the answer that is most correct:
Professor Spike.
PS: I hope they do an OFFICIAL video for this - would be AWESOME!

Multiple choice (since these seem to be all the rage for colleges right now) . . . pick the answer that is most correct:
- A) All 3 ladies have incredible voices.
B) One of those covers that actually improves on the original.
C) We should always remember that our governments and media are stupid.
D) A match made in heaven - and a little bit of cheer in the midst of a lot of stress for us all.
E) Ian is very biased as he thinks these folks can (almost) do no wrong.
Professor Spike.

I'm just glad to hear something (anything) new from Momsen.
It's been almost 4 years since the Pretty Reckless had a new album.
New one is supposed to drop soon, and they were supposed to start touring next month, but who knows now.

Re: What song caught your attention today?
I don't think there are any other MAGNUM fans here - at least not ones that post - but I don't care
Love the new album (released Jan this year) - not a bad track on it. Doesn't hurt to have another Rodney Matthews cover either.
This is my fave though - the chorus that hits at 1:45 gives me chills every time, and the solo at around 3:55 ain't too shabby.
Magnum are one of the earliest HEAVY-prog-rock bands - and Tony Clarkin (guitar) & Bob Catley (vocals) are one of the greatest EVER long-standing teams in rock. Geniuses.

Re: What song caught your attention today?
So VERY VERY far from being their best album - but it was the one that gave them the big break they needed (and the first album of theirs I bought on day 1 of release).
This album is 40-years old today.
2nd single from the album - "Breaking The Law" - great song - but truly AWFUL video (but then EVERY non-live Priest video is embarrassingly bad).

Re: What song caught your attention today?
And speaking of "40-years old today" - we should probably mention this one too
I remember pre-ordering this through HMV records on Birmingham New St. - they gave us a 50p discount for the pre-order - the idea being we were trying to get it in at #1 on the album charts that week. Didn't QUITE make it - but came close
Not going to pick a track - there's no need - oh heck - go on then . . .

Re: What song caught your attention today?
Yeah, I was going to post about Maiden yesterday, but forgot.
It is hard to pick a representative song. There is such a variety on that first album.
As much as I love the rockers, I am also drawn to the others.
I pick Strange World since it has the distinction of not having a version with Bruce doing the vocals.
It has also only been played live twice since the year it was released (two shows in Japan in 81)

Really glad these fellas are still going.
They are apparently pulling in more nowadays than even in their "heyday"
Def Leppard - Billy's Got A Gun - live in Las Vegas (originally from Pyromania - 1983 - 37 effin' years ago!)

Re: What song caught your attention today?
This was released yesterday, and I am loving it!
From Ashes to New - Panic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0xn-M4T3AQ
I was first exposed to these guys back in 2015 when they opened the show for 5FDP - Papa Roach - In This Moment.
I like them a lot, I just don't really follow them. I listen to their stuff occasionally and usually enjoy their stuff. This came across my feed on FaceBook last night.
Though it wasn't this song could have been written for circumstances as they are right now. Not only the lyrics, but also the video really convey how a lot of people are feeling.
Warning for those with sensitive tastes (or listening at work) EXPLICIT LYRICS

Re: What song caught your attention today?
Like this. Could have been written FOR/BY . . . or PERFORMED BY Papa Roach without sounding out of place - very easy to understand why they were on the tourtay666 wrote: . . . Chills on the chorus (always a good sign) - but the language (which is only in 1 part towards the end & is repeated about 4 times) - was unnecessary and out-of-place.

Re: What song caught your attention today?
Their 2 vocalist system reminds me more of early Linkin Park than Papa Roach.
This is the kind of stuff they were doing when I first saw them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5oqZuxSTyM
And this is what they looked like live at the show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2P640z8FRg
Very raw, but they had the stage presence and something that just felt right.
As far as the expletives in the song, I think they punctuate it quite well.
I am sure there will be a radio edit And it seems they've cleaned it up for their live shows as well
