=== BAD movies/TV you've watched during lockdown

#1 Post by Heavy Metal Spike »

.

The longer this lockdown fuss goes - the more desperate we're getting as regards things to watch to dispel the boredom.

Usually, with limited free time, we attempt to restrict viewing to quality (although the odd unexpected stinker creeps in!)
  • . . . but now we have TOO MUCH time, this has resulted in us dragging some older movies & TV out from the Spikey-family vaults that we haven't watched in aaaaaaaaaaaages.
Here's the first couple of efforts that we feel are even worse than we remembered . . . (YMMV) . . .

  • 2004 - Van Helsing
    • OMG.
Love some of the werewolf transformations, but the rest (excepting Kate Beckinsale's corset-squeezed bod throughout) is embarrassing.
We had to watch this in 3 parts - and STILL couldn't finish off the last 50mins (stagecoach scene onwards).
      SO bad.
    2004 - Blade Trinity
    • The only good things about this were the design of the Drake creature, and (of course) Ryan Reynolds (why was this fella not a superstar earlier?)
So awful I'm amazed this ever got released.
      Real stinker.

Anyone else been watching some stuff that was as bad (or worse) than they thought?

Funny how people's tastes vary.
I've watch Blade Trinity more times than I can count. Whenever it is on TV and I stumble across it, it usually stays on that chanel.
Sure, I am not directing 100% attention to it, but still.
For me, it's so bad, it's good.
I'll take this over Blade 2 any day.

I also don't mind Van Helsing. I won't watch it intentionally, but if I stumble across it, and haven't found anything better, it's great background material.

I wish I had your problems. I still have too much to watch, and not enough time to watch it all. I've got at least 20 hours of anime on the DVR to catch up on, with more being added every week. I still haven't watched the last season of Van Helsing yet.
Heck, I can't remember the last time I even had time to get on Netflix. I still have the last season of Jessica Jones, season 2 of Lost in Space, the new season of Castlevania.
The list goes on.

It would really help if I would quit going on YouTube binges. I have several channels I watch regularly. And it eats up way more time than you think it will.

I watched the Spenser movie on Netfix - I know, Mark Wahlberg, why do that to yourself.
I enjoyed the books... and let's just say I should have lived with the more pleasant memory of the written word than the more recent experience with the mangled word.
I tried John Henry Irons - again don't ask why (this thread is, after all, about BAD movies during lock-down).
Couldn't get past the first 15-20 minutes...
What's the line about the Grinch?

Stink...

... Stunk!

Oooo!
I just remembered one I have seen a couple times recently.
Comet has been on a kick of showing Night of the Comet.
Now that is just a bad corny movie.

The Inhumans on Disney+. Lockjaw was kinda fun, but I got off that "merry"-go-round after the first episode.

Sadly, I watched the whole thing when it originally aired.
I kept hoping it would get better.
It didn't

I guess I should watch a few of those before I keep DVRing the whole series.

The only one I've watched was the werewolf episode and only because Greg Nicotero mentioned at JerseyFest that he was part of at least that episode.
The story was interesting enough - WWII setting, Nazis surround G.I's holed up in an abandoned police station with a mysterious prisoner, yadda, yadda, yadda.
The whole episode is an homage to famous film werewolves but the production values were low and the acting was lower.
Although, the whole feel of the episode is supposed to be campy so I guess on that level it was a success....

Nicotero just wants to keep his contract at Amc. He will create anything to keep his stay there..
And I knew the reboot of creepshow would be bad.

Why do you always have to be so negative.
Greg is a great guy, who doesn't need AMC. (he is 1/3 of KNB, one of the premier effects houses in Hollywood). Maybe he did the show because he loves the old horror schlock like I do.
I watched a couple of stories and enjoyed them.
They aren't fantastic or anything, but they were entertaining and just what I was hoping for. A little creepy, a little campy, with some decent acting. Just like Tales From The Crypt.

My thoughts as well to be honest. I was surprised no-one started a thread for the series here (no idea why I didn't).

I enjoyed them to a degree - some were better than others, but most of the 12 suffered from bad scripting with stories that were obvious or endings that were anticlimactic.

Regardless of the scripting, I loved the practical effects in ALL of them (much better than CGI under these circumstances), and will probably watch them again at some point (except the overly-gory ones).

My faves were "The Finger" (neat little creature-feature with a great male lead) and "The Man In The Suitcase".

"The House Of The Head" was also really creepy, and "By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain" was good too.

It got a season 2 renewal.

They do keep to the essence of the comics. I'll keep watching them - good escapism fun!
