As promised, here are pics of the newest shelf.








Glad I did this one next. I didn't realize how many small kits I have.
I am going to need much more small shelving than I originally thought, so I need to rework some of my overall plans before I move forward.

Damn you're good! Those shelves are so perfectly designed to take advantage of the room layout!

I'm trying to pack as many in as possible without them seeming too crowded together.

I also angled the shelves just slightly backwards.
I figured smaller kits don't have much weight to hold them in place, and with this shelf being on the wall adjacent to the hallway, there is going to be a good amount of vibration from all the coming and going.
Would rather have the kits slide backwards, than have them fall off the shelf.

Only reason I thought of it, is we had that problem with stuff in the hutch in the dining room. All the vibrations from people walking through would cause some things to slide forward and rattle against the glass. Finally I shimmed the front legs a bit, and now things slide to the back instead
Last thing I want is for one of those small, fragile, resin kits to take a tumble onto the hardwood.
It would be almost as bad as when I knock something off my workbench onto the concrete floor

Next shelves are already in progress.
Most of the brackets are installed, just waiting for paint.
Lumber is purchased.
I just have to do more exact measurements and figure out my angles, do some cutting, and set up some pocket screws. Then I can paint.
Not sure if these will be ready to reveal this weekend though. I have a bunch of other stuff I want to get done that isn't hobby related.

The two shelves completed so far have cleats that I am screwing through and into the studs.
Well, at least the big one. The little one, I didn't bother and just screwed through the shelf itself on an angle into the studs. It's small, and light, so it doesn't need a ton of support.

If you look at the 2nd shelf down, you can see it. They are on the shelves to keep them from bowing over time, and for attachment purposes.

The shelf that is in progress now is just mounted with angle brackets. It's a long single shelf so that is really the only way to support it.

Ah, I misinterpreted what pocket screws were. I thought you were putting two screws in the wall and had some channels on the shelf backing that they hung on. Your method is way easier, more solid and they way I would of done it.
I like to overcomplicate things.

I'm guessing they're not so good at attaching pieces of wood though - either to bond them together OR to do the work (can't hold the drill or the screwdriver).

The pocket screws will be for the new shelves.
I'll post pictures tonight of where I stand so far, then explain a bit more.

Ok, here is a peak at what I am cooking up now.





Yep, I am going all the way around the top of the room. It's been the plan since the inception of what I was doing with this room.

Luckily, I found I have a can of spray paint that matches the wall color pretty well.
Much better than the white brackets and whatever color those screws are.







Now you should be able to understand better the use for the pocket screws.
They are to attach the shelves together in the corners. That should give the ends a bit of added support and keep them from sagging over time.
I mean, what I am putting up there won't be heavy, but there is no sense in taking chances. Especially since I already have the jig, and the screws. So why not take advantage of it.

5+ weeks later and I still don't have these shelves done

Everything seems to be working against me right now.
First, I had to wrap up my wiring work in the attic before it got too cold (like now)
So that took precedence.
When I thought I could finally turn my attention back to the shelves and got to this point



All, cut, sanded and primed.
Then this happened.




My exhaust came off after hitting a particularly bad pothole.
After I dealt with that,



My water main shut-off decided to spring a leak.
Took a few days to deal with that. It won't actually be fixed until sometime the week of the 8th, since that is the soonest the plumber can come. But I have it contained and mitigated so nothing is getting wet.

So, last night I finally got back down to the basement to get the first coat of paint on. Opened the bucket of paint, and discovered it has gone moldy
Horrible smell.
Closed that back up in a hurry, and took it outside. So, now I have to make a run to the store and get more paint before I can hopefully wrap up this project.

I'm by no means an expert - but I think the exhaust is supposed to be attached to the car.

Bit of a bugger on that and the leak - but could have been worse - you were smart enough to have castors & risers on stuff so it wasn't affected.

Yeah - paint - who knows the many ways it can frustrate you when it has been left sitting after opening - they should make a movie about that - a spin-off to "The Toxic Avenger" perhaps . . . "The Toxic Administrator"

Stick with the plan Trev - you always win on these things (eventually).
