Mini-doc about this hobby of ours...

#1 Post by derekc62 »

Some of you (now all of you) reading this may be aware that I work in television.

Some of my colleagues have been intrigued by this hobby of ours and have wanted to do a story on the hobby and me for some time. I've always resisted. As a reporter for more than three decades I've never wanted the story to be about me.

However... one of my colleagues - cameraman/editor Dave Touniou - finally wore me down the other day and produced this little mini-doc which some of you may enjoy seeing, not because it's about me but because it's really a reflection of all of us.

Very, very cool Derek. Lots of eye candy in there, and then there's the models.

Gotta hand it to my colleague Dave. He did a great job of shooting and editing. All I did was answer his questions and do as I was told.

I'm usually one of his direct supervisors but this time we turned the tables.

That was great!
Short and to the point. And it is so true.
That time at the bench is precious. And very therapeutic.

Thanks Trevor - and everyone else.

Glad you enjoyed it.

My colleague Dave did a fantastic job of putting this together.

Thanks.

FYI - We kept this as a web-only story since I could not ethically give my approval for broadcast (because I'm in it).

The decision to put it on web was left to others.

Love the story - and the one on your Dad from the other thread. NICE paint ups on those busts - real lifelike (am jealous  ).

A wonderful documentary, you've really summed up the essence of the hobby, plus it's great to get a face to the name!
I've always admired your builds posted here, the recent HellBoy bust that we see you working on in the film came off beautifully :D

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks very much Paul, much appreciated.

As I've said previously, all the credit for that mini-doc goes to my very talented and creative colleague Dave Touniou. To borrow from an old quote, all I did was answer his questions without tripping over the furniture :)
