Ian Lawrence has passed.

#1 Post by Otto69 »

It happened faster than I expected. From Facebook:

"Viswanathan Pather · 2m ·
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of our Friend , Master Modeler, Unselfish Guru and fellow member Ian Lawrence.
His Niece Joanna made the announcement this morning.

'It is with a very very heavy heart I have to inform you we lost our Ian early hours of this morning. As you all know he was very ill and had been going through this for a long time. He fought for as long as he could and fought as hard as he could because he was determined and a fighter.
He couldn't fight anymore and we are heartbroken that at 58 an uncle and brother was taken. He wasn't alone and he went peacefully.
We will miss him and he will live on in our hearts and memories.
Sleep tight mate, love your little Ray of sunshine xxxxxxx'

I drove down to see him less than 2 weeks ago from Derby . I had a nice chat with him . He gave me one of his models . A Zeus figure from 'Planet of the apes".

Throughout the years he was always my 'Go to guy' whenever I had a question. Always answered. Never selfish with his knowledge.
He will always be remembered as a Master Modeller who inspired so many, who helped so many . He was also a great writer. His blogs are a treasure showing not only how to build models but written so that they were a pleasure to read . Ian had a cracking sense of humour. It truely showed in his blog .

Ian if you can somehow hear me. I am going to miss you My Friend .
I still would like to start a 'Tribute to Ian Lawrence ' build . I have started mine . All you have to do is post a build log and write 'A tribute to Ian Lawrence ' on it . Let's get this going . Alternatively if you can't build at the moment post one of your models as a tribute."

.

Thank-you for letting us know Robert.

My heart just sank. The man was so special, in so many ways. We just clicked.

I emailed him yesterday in the hope he was still able to handle communication.

I really don't have the words right now.

Truly sad news. What a great and talented guy. All the best to his friends and family. :(

It's always a sad thing to read regarding one of our members and friends. I added a memorial gallery of some of his works to the Clubhouse Gallery, "In Memoriam", so that he may be remembered for his art. For those that are registered in the Gallery the link is here In Memoriam

So sad to hear this.
I try to take some consolation in the fact that he went quickly and didn't suffer overly long.

He will sorely be missed.

One of the finest model makers around. I have spent hour upon hour reading his amazing build logs where he made the impossible look easy. A true loss to this hobby. My most heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
