"So you want to be a GK producer?" - A Wonderfest Seminar

#1 Post by Jesse321 »

Garage Kits.US will holding a seminar at Wonderfest 2023, Saturday at 4pm.

The seminar will cover everything from initial idea to final sale.

I WILL BE DISCUSSING PRICING .... there's no point to these seminars if you don't.

I have an outline already prepared that (I believe) covers pretty much every aspect of production, but if there's anything that anyone wants to suggest to make sure it's covered .. please let me know.

It's scheduled for 4pm Saturday, so it's the least obtrusive time to anyone on the floor.

There are going to be some folks that aren't going to take kindly to some of the things that I'm going to bring to light ... but not my circus, not my monkeys. My job is to give people an actual real world example of what it's like and what it takes to be a GK producer, I'm not doing this to sugar coat crap. If folks want a fairy tale, ya'll can go watch a Disney movie.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but my impression has been that you often had to schedule months (if not years) in advance to hire one of the popular traditional sculptors to create a figure for you. Now, there seems to be a wealth of digital sculptors available...mostly thanks to the tabletop gaming hobby. I'm not saying they all do good work, but If you have any insight into finding a good one that can also do larger scale figures, I would like to hear it. Also, anything about the cost of hiring a sculptor (digital or otherwise) & delivery expectations for a sculpt would be nice.

We're going to discuss all of that.

I would probably touch on producing and doing all the work yourself eg: Molding , Casting and shipping and them farming out the work , which tends to raise prices due to so many talents requiring payments and time. I would say both ways have their different stressors. Wish I was going this year, just to sit in on this class. Have a great show Jessie.

It's to much for me to do every year.
I'll have a table next year.
It's Wonderfest in my house pretty much every day.
I'm feeling the sting of not going though.
