Caricaturing you-know-who would not have been a credible move. They should have gotten an actor with a bit more or a physical presence, though. Meh - quibbles.

The story line was a VERY clever extension of the "Pike saw his future" theme, and excellently done. His #1 being arrested sets up a story line for Season 2 ... which starts tomorrow night in our home-away-from-home ... THANKS SPIKE!

:reddance:

Great - now I can start watching season 2 (for the 2nd time) at the same time as yourselves

Season 2, Ep 1 ... hoo boy ... Mrs Latka on the Enterprise? Quirky as always!

After Spock's feat, I quipped to my wife: "What are they going to do for Ep. 2?"

Then the final scene provided the answer. Strapping in for a bumpy ride!!!

I watched it again last night (I'm going to try to match your "1 per night" if I can resist), and my thoughts haven't changed. Amazing episode :)

Season 2, Ep. 2

Well done. I say that as a former JAG. Very realistically done - no howlers (as in "A Few Good Men" which was truly embarrassing in the court room scenes).

Nice segue, more character establishment, very good. Now - on to the looming intergalactic WAR! against the "Beasties"!!! :shocked2:

I re-watched this last night to match your pace, and this still grabs me in the feels.

So did you still object to the furniture? :)

Just re-watched S02E03 . . . original thoughts here  https://theclubhouse1.net/phpBB3/viewto ... 2&start=18

As I said back then - the wee lady is an amazing actress - that final scene was SOOOOOOO emotional =D> =D> =D>

Hope you now admire her too.

I spotted something this time round I didn't pick up on before - the lass playing Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) has got Nichelle's seated pose and arm/hand positioning at the communications console down PERFECT (55mins in) - nice touch! Image

I can now post more detailed thoughts for S02E04 onwards as I re-watch them (since I didn't first time round). One day at a time though :D

"The furniture"? 🤔 I do note that there are too many eunuch beta males in this universe ... and the security chick is kinda growing on me when she lets her hair down ... 😉

You know Spike, Season 2, Ep 2 was so cool that when I actually watched it I didn't even notice the chairs ...

Now let's get to Season 2, Episode 3. :bshock:

*OMG*

The first half - up til *BANG* :2guns: happens - has to be my favorite one to date. My wife wondered who wrote this one - because it was so different from all the previous ones.

Takeaways:

1. Cutesy Sci/Fi "goes there" and its done SO WELL.

2. I am totally in Lt Singh's character's camp now. Chick is tough, she's cute, she's vulnerable - she won me over. (aka "You were right again, Spike" )

3. Tiberius' actor finally "steps out" and delivers a tongue-in-cheek performance worthy of the original. Wanted that plot thread to continue to its conclusion instead of being cut off, but that would have required a 2-part episode (and would been even more crushing in the end for her) ...

4. The sci/fi aspect of the plot was not new, but (again as with everything in this series so far) was freshly and VERY well done. The one thing about this show that I would like to see are longer plot lines that take more than one episode to roll out, but Star Trek - Picard spoiled me in that regard. This one is more in line with the original Star Trek, and that's OK too.

The eye candy in terms of sets/cgi keeps on coming. The actors are doing a GREAT job and the characters are now fully developed ....

... and ...

... even though this episode was self-contained ... they'd BETTER follow up with ... SOMETHING ... in the vein of the first half of this episode in the future ... know what I mean Spike? \:D/ :lol2: :pimp:

S02E04 - "Among the Lotus Eaters"

Out of ALL of them so far, this one reminded me MOST of the original series - just had that "feel" to it.

Surprised Ridley Scott accepted a role in this (as the guy who helped them) - but hey - maybe he's struggling for Directors jobs these days?

Loved full on / angry Pike in this one.

Couple of fave lines:
  • "Some memories are worth the pain of others"
"I'm Erica Ortegas - and I fly the ship" :)

And another oft-repeated line . . . "live in this moment" . . . provided me with the opportunity to embed a gratuitous pic of the vocal goddess that is Maria Brink

OK Spike - So we watched BOTH Season 2 Episodes 4 AND 5 tonight to keep up with you.

Ep 4 was pretty intense - scary even because losing one's memory and mind is a terrible thing ... and harkened indeed to the Star Trek episode you mentioned. Some funny bits when the pilot starts losing her mind - then gets it back (sort of :rolf: ).

Ep 5 had its comedy bits (multi-dimensional beings with complaint time limits? REALLY? There must have been a MEGA brain fart in the script room the day that was hatched!!) that nearly ruined an otherwise amusing episode.

The ending with Spock and the nurse had been telegraphed for many episodes and I look forward to seeing where that goes. (Didn't much care for Spock's passionless Vulcan fiancee).

More please (will the Gorn start eating people again so we can get serious? :rolf: )

Season 2, Ep 6 - another spooky episode ... looking for the "Gorn" factor turned out to be a head fake. Kirk gets introduced to his future crew members ... and his as-yet-unknown-love-interest .... maybe .... sets and CGI keep knocking it out of the park. My wife noted the obvious thought that had eluded me .. one of the reasons the sets look so good (besides the eye-popping lights/designs) is that they are all so BIG ... the old Star Trek was very claustrophobic - this Enterprise has acres and acres of open space ... heck even a lowly Lt has giant living quarters!!!

Season 2, Ep 7 - ... YEAH. Frakes directed it, and he's apparently known as a jokester ... of the second season episodes this one is definitely the weakest so far ... it just got too ... cutesy ... not quite embarrassingly so, but ...

OMG - they're STORMING ahead !!!!! Image :)

Yeah - that was my least fave of the season as well - a lot of work went into the start credits etc., but I found the 2 guest characters (the actor/actress who provide the voices for their cartoon equivalents on "Lower Decks") IMMENSELY annoying.

Thank you for that explanation Spike. I read it to my wife, and we finally understood why the cartoon period. 😂
