Kothoga vs Conquistadors
Here is a diorama I made from a while back. It depicts a shaman-created Kothoga defending El Dorado.

Re: Kothoga vs Conquistadors
Looks pretty nice. Wish there were some more photos to really take in all the details.

.
I was sure I'd seen this before - I was thinking it was a Wonderfest display (from years back) - and the photo's do suggest that may be where they were taken?
Absolutely stunning work - design & execution - that would be a centrepiece of my collection!
I'd love some higher-res pics so I could zoom in to really appreciate the details.

Thank you for the very kind words Heavy Metal Spike! By the way, I did change this diorama a bit after these pictures. I built up the water around Kothoga so it looked like he was violently emerging from under the water. I learned never to mix the Woodland Scenics white paste water effects with the Woodland Scenics liquid water effects. It took months to dry. Like most of my projects, this diorama is in storage and rather hard to get at. However, maybe someday I can do so and get newer pictures. Thanks again!

Wow - I'd have been sweating big-time with it taking that long to dry!
You are very welcome regarding the praise bud . . . I still love looking at those pics.

Re: Kothoga vs Conquistadors
As far as water effects, I like the Woodland Scenics Deep Pour. Its a two part formula. However, it hardens really fast, so you need to think through where its going to go. Gets pretty warm too while its curing and might damage vinyl. On the other hand, it doesn't shrink like the Woodland Scenics Water Effect in the bottle. The waxy chip material from Woodland Scenics is just way too difficult to use and definitely destroys vinyl.

Love the concept - I once had the idea of doing something similar with the MiM Harryhausen Hydra and a bunch of Roman legion figures, but ... life got in the way and the figures/Hydra got sold off ... masterful build! Water adds an element of interest, beautifully executed and finished!!!

Thank you very much! I do like adding figures to the dioramas I make. Be they monsters or people, they can set an emotional tone and add a kinetic feel to the scene. Just about all of my future projects will have their own "cast of characters". There are no small parts, only small actors. By the way, I'm really impressed with the progress on your new Kong scene. When it comes to Kong stuff, I feel an obligation to always step up and try to make it special. Seeing your art makes me strive even more.

Re: Kothoga vs Conquistadors
Thank you. As soon as I finish my currently ongoing gigantic Cretaceous diorama I will get back to the Kong build ... spoiler ... I have already ordered the supplies for 'bashing Tony Cipriano's new printed HUGE "Kong Up Top" (my name for these Kong on Empire State kits ) ... its going to be a bit different, given the larger scale of the piece ... but still huge ... can't wait to have all 3 of them displayed side by side ....timetraveler wrote: ↑November 29th, 2023, 3:30 pm Thank you very much!
