Okay, I guess I am going to paint these...

More or less in order I painted them. Some went very quickly, others took several days (I hate you Wicker Eddie)

Reaper Eddie from Dance of Death

Image

"Into the circle of fire, I followed them
Into the middle, I was led"

Image

Image

Next is Wicker Eddie from Wicker Man (burn b**ch burn)

Image

"Nothing you can contemplate will ever be the same
Every second is a new spark, sets the universe aflame"

Image

Mummy Eddie from Powerslave

Image

"Silent, the terror that reigned, marbled in stone
A shell of a man God preserved
For a thousand ages"

Image

Killer Eddie from Killers

Image

"Scream for mercy
He laughs as he's watching you bleed"

Image

Image

Shaman Eddie from Book of Souls

Image

"Towers reaching upward to the heavens
Sacred wonders for the world unknown
Make their lives be a mystery no more"

Image

Image

Resurection Eddie from Live After Death

Image

"He's walking like a dead man
If he had lived he would've crucified us all"

Image

Image

Image

Samurai Eddie from Senjutsu

Image

"Try if they can, we will overthrow them
Fight to the last, they can never own us
Battle of wills, we'll fight to the last man"

Image

Tree Eddie from Fear of the Dark

Image

"Have you ever been alone at night
Thought you heard footsteps behind
And turned around, and no one's there?"

Image

Image

Image

Mental Eddie from Piece of Mind

Image

"I've no doubt that you think I'm off of my head
You don't say, but it's in your eyes instead"

Image

Pharoah Eddie from Powerslave

Image

"I don't wanna die; I'm a god
Why can't I live on?"

Image

Basist Eddie from Live After Death

Image

"Circle of fire, my baptism of joy
At an end, it seems"

Image

Trooper Eddie from The Trooper
Image

"You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through"

Image

Image

Image

Gunslinger Eddie from Stranger in a Strange Land

Image
"I was a young man, full of hopes and dreams
But now it seems to me
That all is lost and nothing gained"

Image

Cyborg Eddie from Somewhere in Time

Image
"Make you an offer you can't refuse
You've only got your soul to lose"

Image

And finished...

Well, okay. I guess this thread is about a very acquired taste.

Not exactly sure why they're all named Eddie, but then I have never listened to a single Iron Maiden song, hence my cluelessness.

Anyway, interesting little miniatures, and hope you will post your paint-ups as you go along.

I'm always amazed at those of you whose eyesight is still good enough to tackle such small subjects! :D

Apologies for the terrible picture quality. I'm working on a better setup (no tripod). I might replace these pictures sometime in the future if I get better. These had their levels adjusted plus Shake Reduction filter applied in Photoshop.

The base is a slate tray I lasered IRON MAIDEN into. If anyone going to WF this year wants one, I'll make you one for $5 (covers materials). Not going to ship these, kinda fragile. You can get it with the crosshatch inside the letters as shown, or just the letter outlines.

These are Army Painter SpeedPaints, Army Painter Game Paints, and Valejo model paints, except the black for the base which is craft paint. Not sure which matte finish I'm using. It's not as matte as I'd like, but it's better than the other one I have. I cannot find Dullcote for a reasonable price

Wheeee, only 6 to go

Eddie is the mascot of Iron Maiden. There are dozens of versions of him for each album, single, t-shirt, etc.

Wow Randy!
You haven't lost your touch, that's for sure.

And you work a hell of a lot faster than me.
Looking great!

I cheat.

SpeedPaints essentially do 3 steps in 1 pass. Brush it on, it pools into the depths for the shadows and just leaves a color stain on the highlights. Maybe you need to drybrush a little, maybe not. If you're using SP V1, you can erase the paint off the highpoints with just a wet brush even after it dries. SPV2 removed this "reactivation" so you need to remove the excess before it dries.

Palid Bone is an amazing light brown color that is useful to "age" anything. I've used 1/3 bottle in the past 10 days. Every Eddie has at least a little.

I am well aware of speed paints, and contrast paints. They have been something of a game changer for me, and basecoating normal kits.
Though on the minis, I am not a fan of the zenithal prime, as it seems a bit 'spotty' to me. So I think the next ones I will drybrush the white over the black and see how that looks to my eye.

I agree about the zenithal prime. Never actually done it, but seems it'd leave too much of the figure flat and in shadow. Fine for figures meant for a diorama but I don't make dioramas. I did white prime with a black wash, then white drybrush. Puts the whole piece at an equal light level, which was always my preference. I think Fear Eddie is the first time I've ever painted a light source into a model (and I did it wrong the first time, and the second, this version still has issues but I gave up)

Originally I'd planned to leave these at the black wash/white drybrush stage and just display them that way. The small set of speed paints arrived the same day the third set of Eddies did so I decided to try them. Less than an hour later I had the reaper Eddie at the "done enough" stage and started on his base. Doing the Spider-Man bust a few weeks ago then Reaper, I knew I needed some practice with accuracy if I was going to start painting again so decided to do the rest of them. Half went well, half did not. I then ordered the large set of speed paints since I hate mixing colors and my next project needs a bunch of bright colors.

I do like zenithal primes on larger kits. But on the miniatures the speckles at the edge of the white are just too ugly. Hence the reason I am going to switch to a white drybrush instead.
I love using zenithal with speedpaints to accentuate the shadows even more. Blue speedpaint is great for doing jeans. Especially at these small scales.

Yeah, I have very little experience with OSL but I am dipping my toes in. I want to get comfortable with it for future project ideas. Especially my Ghost of Castle Mare.

Added Powerslave, Piece of Mind, Live After Death, and Trooper Eddies

I think Trooper turned out the best. He's easily my favorite so far.

Man, you are cranking them out.
And they look great!
I really like the POM. You got so much more detail from it than I did. I need to learn to do much thinner layers of paint, and a lot less layers.

Cyborg and Gunslinger Eddies added.

That's it, done. For now at least, hopefully they make more.

I painted these in reverse order of my interest, mostly to get practice. I think it worked and the final five are better than the first nine.
