Movies you WOULD like to see remade.....

#1 Post by Glusniffer »

This could be fun.......

Got an old fave that could be a decent remake in this age of CGI and stuff? Ive thought on this for a long time.

I'll start with 1979's 'Prophecy'. Giant mutated bear thang frozen in various stages of evolution due to methyl mercury poisoning. (Katadin) by native american lore. This oldie was based on actual facts that happened in Minamata Japan regarding polluting the environment so it has a legitimate storyline. It was called "THE Monster Movie" 8)

Great idea for a thread!

Then I had to think . . . but it only took me 20 seconds to come up with my first idea . . . Pumpkinhead

Highlander, a flawed but classic fav. Skipping all the sequels but incorporating some of the plot points from the tv series like the watchers.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?

Great topic Jeff.

I'll have to think on it a bit. I know there are definitely a few bad movies that could have been good that might be helped by a remake.

I do like the idea of Highlander, but they have not shown the ability to put together a good sequel, so I have little hope for a good remake.
I did love the series, especially after it moved over to Europe and opened up so many more story lines.

Absolutely, new director, new writers etc. But keep some of the main characters and ideas of the first movie and the series and you have to keep the soundtrack Queen nailed it.

Lord of the Rings
- follow the books much more closely
- remove silly dialogue ; e.g. do not have an orc say “meat is back in the menu”
- have a much stronger Aragorn ( no self doubt b.s.)
- change shelob design to more closely match description in the books
- keep balrog design same
- give much more insight and screen time to sauron , actually show him in barad-dur as a badass being and not just as an eye on top of the tower ; show his malice and evilness ; like torturing Gollum and some captured elves ; have flashbacks to show how he came to power

Ridley scott’s Legend
- make an adult R rated version
- keep darkness design, voice, and Scott’s environments designs the same
- remove silly dialogue , e.g “adios amigos” , “shot me in my brain pan”
- make the goblins and other bad beings scarier
- make jack and the other “good guys” serious and not comical
- have Lilly be more tempted and fall under darkness spell

Movies? What are those?

Seriously, I'm not a big fan of remakes. Or cartoons being made into live action films.

But no one it seems can come up with an original idea anymore, in no small measure due to the "PC" straightjacket imposed by today's Hollywood on all films

So real life subjects can't be put on the screen. Hence the nonstop "comic book live action DRECK".

Werewolves on Wheels
The Incredible Melting Man
could be remade and improved.

I wouldn't want to see Without Warning remade--I liked that film--but I am surprised no one thought to do a sequel.
The frisbee leech aliens were really neat.
It gets terrible reviews on IMDB which is a shame because it was a decent thriller with good acting. Modern movies are so bland and forgettable.
Expertly made trailer too--great voice over.

I honestly have no recollection of this movie. Which is strange, because this was the time that I was going to see these types of flicks. And with both Jack Palance and Martin Landau! 👹👺💥🌋👀🛸🛸🛸

To begin with:

Something Wicked This Way Comes in a way that captures the novel's lyricism and luridness.

*Faithful and abundantly resourced* adaptations of The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine.

Primer, so I some idea of what the hell was going on.

Alien 3, so they did not kill off everyone we cared about.

I think a lot of the classic B-movie monster films that depended heavily on makeup or special effects would work well as remakes. Look how well it worked out 42 years ago when John Carpenter remade The Thing, a superior film that stands on its own, not taking anything away from the original. Same goes for Cronenberg's The Fly from 1986 and The Blob from 1988. Oh, and of course the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

With that in mind, I suggest remaking the 1954 giant-bug classic Them!

P.S. Just thought to check Wikipedia and found this:
On January 4, 2023, it was revealed that Academy Award winning film composer Michael Giacchino would make his feature directorial debut with a remake of Them! for Warner Bros. Pictures.

I'm also on board with an Alien sequel that forgets everything after Aliens. HATED Alien 3 so much it still casts an evil shadow over everything that followed.

It's unusual for us to disagree about something (hey it had to happen eventually :) ) (* you are still on the Christmas card list though *)

Alien3 is actually my fave out of ALL movies the beasties are involved in. Neither the wee Wifey or I were impressed when we originally saw it (it was SO different that what was expected after "ALIENS", and no-one wanted Hicks & Newt to die! )

It grew on me with subsequent watchings, but what REALLY sold it to me was the exclusive/directors/whatever cut that includes the extra cut scenes, fleshing out a lot of the character decisions and generally providing more background. The latest super-duper version has taken THAT version even further by cleaning up the visuals and applying an overdubbed/restored soundtrack & dialogue. Absolutely amazing film. The cast is perfect too (with Charles Dance getting prime recognition). Probably my fave design of the creature too (although love the Alien Resurrection design also).

So I personally would NOT want that rewritten in any shape or form.

As regards the B-movies though - I totally agree with your observations, historical examples and suggestion.
