Godzilla Minus One has recently appeared on Netflix! Watching it again confirms what a terrific movie this is.

Now THIS is Godzilla (or Gojira). A rampaging H-Bomb with a side order of redemption tossed in.

Bought a blu ray from Japan. EDIT: Also loved the music from the original played as he wreaked havoc.

Re: Godzilla Minus 0
watched it the other night. I really don't know why. Never been a big fan of the big guy.
Always looked at him as a villian. Looks like every movie of his is: comes ashore, stomps around, they kil
him, the end.
(side note: the lizard itself is cool, only becuz he looks like a horny t-rex)

Godzilla Minus One ISN'T your traditional Godzilla movie. (I think that's one reason why I liked it so much).
"A horny t-rez", huh????

Re: Godzilla Minus 0
I'm far from a Godzilla fan or expert, but for me this wasn't so much a Godzilla movie as it was a movie about honor and shame that used Godzilla as a vehicle for the main character (sorry, can't remember his name) to redeem himself.
Most of the film is about the main character dealing with his feeling of cowardice because he couldn't or wouldn't complete his Kamikaze mission. That's compounded by his fear during the first Gozdilla attack on the island. The filmmakers double-down on this with the comments and actions of the surviving mechanic and the neighbor when the main character finally returns to his home. Each blames him for the deaths of family and colleagues.
From that point on he's committed to finding a way to destroy both himself and Godzilla.
Compared to the few other Godzilla films I've seen, it struck my as kinda a-typical...

Re: Godzilla Minus 0
I finally watched it for the first time today. Have to say I agree.
It's a really good drama, but kinda sucks as far as Godzilla movies go IMHO.
Glad I didn't go to the trouble to drive an hour to a theater to see it. Especially since it only being subbed would have bugged me. (I watched a dub)
I did enjoy it. I was invested in the characters and the story. It was really good in that sense. But if I want to watch a Godzilla movie, this isn't what I am going to pick. I don't regret the $22 I spent for the DVD, but it probably isn't going to see many plays.
I'll stick to the 70's classics, or the 60's. Those are my favorite era's (in that order)
