New kitten

#1 Post by Misellus »

The universes Cat Distribution System apparently decided I have been cat-less for long enough (my cat died in January). Shortly before 4 yesterday a coworker told me there was a cat in my van and it was very loud. As I walked out to the parking lot I sighed and knew I'd be going home with a cat that day.

We checked it out and there was an itty bitty (like freshly weaned) black kitten hiding behind the front wheel. Another coworker tried to grab it and kitten went up into the engine compartment. Half an hour later and after removing parts of the air filter housing, coworker was able to reach in far enough and grab the kitten. After some discussion it was decided the CDS meant the kitten for me, so kitten went into a box and home with me.

Meet Princess Donut or just Donut for short

The name comes from the book series Dungeon Crawler Carl I read a few months ago. I'd commented that the next nameless girl cat I got would be named Princess Donut. So here we are.

I set her up in an unused bedroom. I don't want to give her full run of the house until I know she uses the litterbox and can go up the steps to get to said litterbox. She was completely uninterested in the human and needed to examine and comment on everything in the room. I left her to relax and destress and I went back downstair to also destress and relax. Later I went back up, petted her for a few minutes then went next door to the paint room. After a while I went back downstairs, sat in my recliner and knocked her off the chair arm. She'd crawled under the bedroom door, went down the steps, and figured out my recliner is the most comfortable seat in the house (this kitten is brilliant). I petted her, she did the squirelly dance of kittens who want to play more than they want cuddles, yet are being forced into cuddles. Eventually I realized that had turned into chasing my hand for more petting. So I pet her, she purred and did the rub rub nudge nudge. I ended up sleeping half the night in the chair with her on my chest.

She's also got a weird meow. I swear she can throw her voice. I can see her under the edge of the bed, yet the meow is coming from the doorway behind me.

I've seen her drinking water, and her breath smelled of catfood when she was on my chest, so she's eating and drinking. This morning the sand in the literbox looked to be moved around so I'm hoping that also got used.

She's mostly black with a white spot on her chest (a diamond necklace) and just the tips of the toes on here rear feet (glass slippers). A princess must be properly attired.

Life is more fun with a cat.
Sounds like she is already making herself at home.
Enjoy.

Very cool that you gave her a good home. Many of my pets over the years were acquired in a similar fashion and I never regretted a single one. You're a lucky guy!

Week 1 update

She is a very sweet cat. She follows me around to be part of whatever I'm doing. The meowing has dropped in both quantity and volume. I still get an earful when I get home from work since she was alone all day. After the first couple days, I think she realizes I'm not leaving permanently. She has full run of the house except for the basement and my painting room. She's welcome in the painting room if I'm there, but she does knock things off the desk.

Sitting around in the evenings generally involves her on my lap/chest either sleeping or attacking my hand. She's got good claw and tooth control so while she will claw and knawl it's never hard enough to draw blood and rarely hard enough to cause pain. At night she sleeps on my side or back. I woke up this morning and she was attacking the pillowcase.

So, good first week. She's downright adorable and I like having her around and I think she likes being with me

I should have named her Snarf. It was the sound she was making while eating this tin of food. She was really digging into it. Ended up with food bits on her face.

As they say, pictures or it didn't happen.

Actually, I believe you, I just want pictures. I'm fine with turning this thread into a kitten picture thread.

Weekly update: Donut's noticably larger than she was when we found her. With her size, her claw and knaw attacks have become somewhat painful. My right hand is covered in microscratches. Guessing she needs blood to grow "Feed me, Seymour!"

Still very sweet though, even with the violent and vicious attacks. Not sure if she knows her name, or just comes to me when I talk to her. She still sleeps with me every night, and sleeps on my chest or shoulder in the evenings while I play on the computer. Right now she's attacking my fingers as I try to type.

If you can't point out a superficial scratch or bite somewhere on your person...you're not a true kitten owner.

I can not only point out the bite, I have evidence of the assault:
Image

Of course, one look in that face and you not only forgive the attack, you offer up the other fingers just in case she's still hungry.

Afterwards she needed a nap. This is her favorite spot to sleep. It's also my favorite spot for her to sleep.
