And so, even though I never knew him myself, I think it's important that the folks here know about the passing of Terry Reynolds, apparently two years ago. Here's what Michael Reagan posted about him last night on Facebook:
I was amused all day, as my friend Danny Soracco of DIMENSIONAL DESIGNS experienced his usual struggles to get to his show, in this case SON OF MONSTERPALOOZA. He sent me a text after 8:00, the problem being the show started at 6:00. He shocked me when he wrote: ”I didn’t know Terry Reynolds died?”
Terry was a self-taught sculptor who loved the old serial characters and the television heroes. Not exactly popular subjects for the fledgling garage kit hobby at the time. So Terry decided to make his own. When he showed me his George Reeves Super Man, the likeness was unmistakable. And his work-in progress of the Adam West Batman was amazing. The Rocket Man, Flash Gordon, all followed suit. These sculptures were on the rough side, but the likeness was spot on. The figures gained in popularity, until AFM publisher Terry Webb provided a name for this unknown company:
“IDC Models”, short for “I DON’T CARE”.
As Mr. Reynolds sculpted away, his skill increased dramatically. The characters were sharper, more defined, and more complex.
I lost contact with him when I moved from the SF Peninsula to the East Bay. Then he stopped producing kits for sale, and communication went dark. I always wondered how he was doing, until getting the worst possible news tonight. I don’t know how or even when he left this world, but he was a friend, and a great talent, even though he sometimes refused to believe it. I hope he has found peace and rest…
