John Petik Frankenstein kit

#1 Post by derekc62 »

I just did a little research to find out when I bought this and it was 2017 when a lot of the kits owned by the late John Petik were auctioned off by his estate.

This is the 1/5 scale Needful Things Frankenstein monster on the stairs.

It's been sitting on my shelf for the last seven years with some minor damage caused by the shippers used by the auction house.

Repairs are done, kit's been primed and it's now ready for paint and a new life... The first photo was John's paint-up.

I'm not normally a fan of a green-skinned monster but for this one I thought I'd try tinting areas of the skin green.

I used my regular approach of darker complexion (bronze skin tone), spatters of flesh wash, misting of transparent lighter tones, followed by the yellow/red/blue washes and then I applied a green spot wash here and there.

I should add that I also shot the kit with denatured alcohol after the red wash..

I then started stippling color mixed with a greenish hue to highlight and blend.

I think it'll look much better once I block in the hair.

The hair is in and the eyes have been blocked in. Still have some detailing to do on the eyes.

I snipped some staples to use as the prongs on the electrodes and painted the metal parts (electrodes, wrist brace and wires, skull clamp).

The hard work on the figure is almost done. On to the clothing and weathering of the clothing and then the stone stairway and wall.

Thanks Vlad.
You really have to look closely to see my little joke. He has heterochromia - one eye is green, the the is blue - because, you know, he's made from various body parts

:bshock: Very clever, very, VERY clever!!! :thumb2: (Not to mention incredibly SUBTLE!!! It would be easy to make one eye brown to make it stand out, but - artistically - this is far more payoff for the buck - to eh ... mix metaphores ... or ... SOMETHING! :mrgreen2: )

Outstanding idea and execution.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
