If I recall correctly "John's Models" (as indicated at the start of this thread) was supposed to have released this.

These are the same dealers who re-released the Janus Karloff-Pierce kit, but from what I've heard their production has been spotty. I've seen people say they contacted them to buy one and never got a reply.

When I was at Wonderfest in 2022 or 2023 they had a table and I seem to recall seeing both kits, or a least a sign promoting The Hideous Sun Demon. But since then I haven't seen one for sale or a post anywhere from anyone who managed to buy one.

Wow, that's a great sculpt. The makeup for 'The Hideous Sun Demon' was easily the best thing about that movie and this sculpt really did it justice.

FYI (just for clarity's sake) - I just realized this old post by Yellowcat about Chris Walas features photos of the Creature but the painted kit (shown) was actually sculpted by Rudy Garcia for Needful Things and not Walas. Just an FYI...

Christopher Walas is an American special effects legend, make-up effects artist, film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on the film The Fly, for which he won an Academy Award and was nominated for two British Academy Film Awards. He did sculpts for garage kits back in the days. Best known for his sculpt for the Dark Horse Creature from the Black Lagoon. He and Rick Baker designed and created the puppets for Gremlins and Gremlins 2. There is an article on him in the Amazing Figure Modeler Premier issue.

I would like to clarify the Creature photo which I had posted.
The painted creature photo which I had posted was indeed sculpted by Chris Walas for Dark Horse. The Rudy Garcia sculpt for Needful Things was a very similar kit. The base and the vegetation was totally different. The Dark Horse one featured a human skull and marine animal skeletons. Details include coral and kelp as well as piranha and eel.
Please refer to the following pictures. The first one is from Dark Horse photos courtesy from Bucwheat spotlight on creature. The second one is Needful Things box art.

Weird...

I looked through the thread twice before I posted my 'clarification" but I didn't see your post from 2021 where you also clarified the photo credit.

I even went through the thread before posting this and still can't see your original clarification... It's like the original post was somehow deleted or lost... Bizarre. Might be something on my end.

Anybody know if this was ever released as a kit since this is a old post and I thought perhaps by now it was released as a kit.
Thanks!
