Galaxy Hobby Contest Photos

#1 Post by F91 »

The annual Sci-Fan contest was held today with several members from the BB participating. Heavy competition. The pictures don't do the kits justice, but you get the idea-

Looks great! What a turnout.

Also like the "$5.00 for up to five models; $1.00 for each additional model"... entry fees. Try entering 5-6 kits at Wonderfest..... 8)

The Thing won first place last year, it was there for display only. The Creature took 3rd place in Animal-Monster. My Wolfman was lucky enough to win first in that category.

Great stuff!
You guys are so spoiled to have so much tallent in one area like that.
Hope the other guys stop by to chime in on this thread.
I see a lot of familiar faces in those pics.

The owner is a certified Scifi nut and a great guy. He enjoys the contest as much as we do. Here's some better shots of the stuff I did-

We had a good time--as usual--at the show and afterwards. It was a good turnout...but I would love to see it get much bigger. Our goal is to have so many entries that it overflows the display area  This was the first time that I forgot to bring my camera so I don't have any other views to show everyone.

The show started around 10 AM with entries coming in until around 1 PM. There were four demos scheduled covering lighting, diorama and water effects, superdetailing your models, and resin kits. Door prizes included two dremel tools and gift certificates up to $40 in value. After the awards were given and the area cleaned up, the shop owner treated everyone who wanted to tag along to a pizza feed at the local Alfy's Pizza Parlor. To cap it off, a few of us went to see Serenity after the feed.

Dang Steve! If I'd have known, I would have gone to see Serenity again! Eh, my son was getting kind of tired anyway.....
Congrats on your 1st Place Wolverine, a proffessional job to be sure.
BTW- I was lucky enough to win one of the Dremel tools, it's charged up and works great.

The Cap is the PL version. The chainmail was just drybrushed light blue and white over a darker blue base. One person asked me "What's the Nazi swaztika all about?" so I had to explain. Kids! The rings are very easy as there are deep grooves in the sheild seperating the colors. The face was the hard part! The worst face sculpt in modern history, a David Brenner lookalike. I had to file down the nose, re-do the mouth a bit and shave down the ears. Lots of work.
If Cap really did look like that, he couldn't whip my Granny!

Yes, It's molded, I only wish I could paint that well. The PL version took some liberties over the Aurora kit. The chainmail was an improvement, the face, not so much..... The forward foot connection to the leg doesn't lineup correctly and causes the whole figure to be somewhat off kilter unless you cut off the alignment pin off of the foot and reposition it.

Thanks you guys, they were all fun to build. I really put my heart into the Wolfman as it was a Christmas present from my son. I tell you, I feel very lucky, we have some great modelers in our area and I feel very humble to have won anything.

The Time Machine actually lit up and was motorized. It was very well done and also won an award.
