I have seen a couple kits entered at Chiller contest, show up
at WonderFest and other local shows as well.

There should not be a problem with entering the same kit in different
shows , I think its when you enter the same kit year after year then
there might be a problem.

Oh boy Buc, I'm so happy :hot: you posted this info. I just got back from the site and I'm definately in. I went to a Chiller Theater Show a few years back and I got to meet Soupy Sales!!! Even got his autograph, one I paid for on a picture of him and one he signed my diary. "What a guy."

Anyway. It really was a gas when I went last and I've learned so much since then. I can't wait to bring some of my dio's. I think it will be wonderful to be posted in their mag and even better now I've got a great digital camera, so I can take pictures of my own and post a page on my site of the show. I printed out the the forms and I'll be sending in for my ticket first thing in the morn. Wish I had a friend who loved this stuff too. But hey, I've got myself and hopefully other club member when I get there.

I hope I get to meet Zach too. Maybe even his wife. lol I'll feed her a bowl of jello, just like he used to on his TV program. lol

again, thanks much for posting this.

Hey here's a question

#7 Post by Richard Cacioppo »

Besides from the Chiller Contest are there any other shows in the NY vicinity that happen from time to time.

I'd love to be part of everything I can get to. To see others work and to get my work seen and to mingle with any one who'll mingle.

I think what was meant there was that the contest staff will not look after it overnight Saturday. (no place to store it) You can drop it off Friday, no problem and you will be given a claim check to pick it up after the awards. That claim check is the key. Nobody can pick up a model without it. As long as someone has the claim check they can pick up the model. They just have to do it before the show closes on Saturday night.

Of course if you are a winner you miss getting your picture taken.

Yes, to do the entry, which is what he said he would be doing. We have been allowing people to enter kits on Friday night for the last few shows. He just wants someone else to pick it up when the show is over.

Hey Buc

#12 Post by Richard Cacioppo »

I can't wait for tomorrow and joining in with the festivities on hand. I've got my ticket for an early arrival at 9AM sharp. I'm so excited the bloood is oozing through my viens with morbid anticipation and delight.

I've got my two diorama's packed up and ready to be entered in the contest of the day. I'm hoping against hope, that one of them will be choosen and acknowledge for all the work and stimuli I put into every ounce of it. I go by the mental title of "I'd rather be modeling." And without a shadow of a doubt, that phrase is true and solid in my gut, today and I'm sure for all my days to come. I am no fly by night modeler, buy one whose continuing on a road of education and engagement with others of an equal mindset.

Tomorrow, is a date I've had for over a month on my personal calandar. One that has been anticipated in total and from every angle a person of my kind could grasp. I plan on bringing my camera with me, to take ooddles of pictures, so I can create a page on my website for others to enjoy who may not be able to participate for reasons beyond their control.

I'll also be bringing my diary, where I'm in hopes of getting a signiture or two, of some of those famous people from yesterday and today. Linda Hamiton, Leslie Neilson, and Zacharly, (ahhh, did I crusify the spelling of their names ... lol, that's me all over.) Any other signatures would be a plus in my mind. Last time their I got Soupy Sales and David Hedison.

I hope to oggle at the models being offered by the sellers and with any luck come away with one or two by days end. I've ear marked so many over the years that may be offered. And even more some of new bad boys on the block. I anticipate that even more.

I want to mingle with the big boys and smooze as much as one can, without looking to eager and over zealous for my cause. I hope others will want the same of me and may even acknowledge me as one of the ones whose not a "newbee", but one whose gained enough knowledge to impart a little of my own brand of history from my art.

I've printed a bunch of my business cards. Which are five different cards in total, unique unto themself. To share with others my websight and the things that I do.

Yes, dear Buc, this is an event I'm encouraged by myself alone. Fact is, I've no one else to encourage me. Our brand of work really doesn't have any but a select group of people in total and not the kind that stand out from the crowd, but mostly, lurks in the shadows. Some may disagree, but I've found that all the people I've ever dealt and encountered, would rather see pretty little pictures of flowers, like daisey's, and the like, or scuptures of fairy's and and some friendly dragon, as the worst. Yes, ours a hobby not shared by the masses. But I don't care, for tomorrow I'll mingle with the best of them and love every minute for who I am, and not who they want or wish me to be.

Looking forward to every single ounze of it. Until tomorrow.

sincerely,

the mad monster maker from the village in the middle

The final assessment...

#13 Post by skotty »

I have to echo Buc's comments on another thread here. It was great to see such a great turnout of entries for this year's contest. We seem to be growing again after a couple of year's of decline. Not only were there more entries, but the numbers of Scratch built, and dioramas was truly impressive. The originality, and the scope of the work was fantastic.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the contest. I hope it leads to us getting over 100 entries next year. ;)

I never even made it into the contest room as I was only able to get in for a few hours Saturday morning, the lines were monstrous. I haven't seen a contest entry there in years. I sure do wish they would bring it back to the April show too.

I agree...I made the trip... just when I got there the
guy said the fire marshall said something
to the fact that there was too many people
and not let anyone in at the moment..

I had my kits with me.. waited for 10 minutes then
left.... way way way to many people..

so I split..

wouldnt mind the april contest either.

We only heard about the problems at the front desk on Sunday. It seems the fire marshall in Parsippanny was a little more strict than they were used to. I heard that at one point on Saturday he threatened to close the show down if they gave out one more wrist band.

That being said, there are ways around that problem, for contestants in the model contest. I am sure we will have it fixed for the next time.

The plus side is that despited being crowded, there seems to be a lot more freedom to move around in this venue once you are inside, then the last couple of places.

Were you actually in there?

That scene was packed cattle from front to back. By noon Saturday the line outside the window as I stood there doing makeup on the Ghouligans in their room was not moving. Trying to move through it with arms full of equipment was not easy. It was just as bad or worse than the old days of October Chillers. Where so many people showed up it was impossible to get back in if you left to go put kits in your room or car.

But, the April show is a ghost town in comparison.

not only that, but the people running the wrist bands were not helpful as far as the model contest goes. We went there and were told to wait on line. When we explained we were part of the model contest and didnt have to wait online it seems they were confused. We were told to step aside and they let more people go who prepurchased tickets.
Again we asked about the model contest....i think they got sick of us so they took our money and gave us a wrist band. The money probably didnt go to the till

I second that emotion.

I think the worst of it was that it was "HOT" and even sticky because of the weather. I was playing bumper cars with all the people. It was like being in the subway, in the NYC rush hour. Arm pits and bump, thump, lump. There was even a little road rage from person to person. Disorganized was saying the least of the people running things. They were all in a daze and very confused. "No, no ... that's the line. No, no, it's that. Err :refexion: I haven't a clue." And truely they didn't. So I did my best to deal with it and just accepted that certain things I just wouldn't stress myself over. Like going down stair was sheer madmess in my head. I think more shows at different times of the years might thin out the crowds. As far as organization goes. Someone has to be held accontable for the madness, otherwise why have rules at all. "Now whose got my wrist band??? :hot: I know I paid for my ticket already. Will someone direct me to the right line. :sniper: Man I'd like to shoot whose ever in charge of this mess!" ha ha ha ... only kidding. Or am I?

Chiller contest

#20 Post by Phil109 »

I think they should have a Spring contest as well! Also, they need a larger room! This is just a personal observation, but the kit dealers were pretty much non-existant! Man...even Alternative Images was selling build-ups! What the heck??? Sassys was selling build-ups as well. Most dealers were selling action figures out the ying yang! It's become a toy show anymore! Amok Time had no resin kits!

I know it's a fantasy, but I wish Chiller would go back to being a model show and not the damn celebrity gig it has become! Maybe they could do an offshoot or something. I know, another fantasy!

Phil L.

Contest tip: To anyone entering next years competition, be sure and paint a C3PO! Guaranteed to get you at least 3rd place! After all, that's a real complex paint job!
