You know when a modeler evokes military metaphors they mean business...

Good on you Vlad, keeping the tradition of a progress build alive! Looking forward to watching the build.

Do not construe this as a criticism ('cause of course I get it), but what keeps drawing you back to this particular moment of movie history?

Now, if we can just find a way to muzzle Scuzzy...
*Chuckle* I've ALWAYS spoken in "military metaphors", even long before I was ever in the military ... comes from being a historian and growing up in the Balkans as the son of a WW2 hero. No joke there. I am just now scanning my late father's old WW2 photos that I never even knew he had before (I inherited them when my mother passed in March). But that's another project, and another story ... :sniper2:

Well Steve, who amongst us is NOT a "Kong Freak"? :alcoholic:

When I had that vision to "Build The Tower" with last year's kit, I got an extra piece of smaller width pipe because I wanted to do this kit the same way. :drool2:

Now the even bigger "Kong on Empire State" that Tony Cipriano just did (which is in the mail to me as we speak) will not get this treatment, a. because its TOO HUGE and b. because I intend to take it unbuilt and build it up for display at our Croatia Summer Home next year ...

So many kits, so little time ... :rolf:

Less sleep, about 4 hours a night.. And you could get alot done.. .. :D
Though, you may fall asleep and wake up with model part glued to your face.
That's okay...

Fair enough, condolences on the death of your mother and respect to your father. My mother passed away a couple of months ago too. It's tough.

Scuzzy apparently... It's true to a point (I only have three Kong kits -- what an amateur  ) but I think it's safe to say you are at the more committed end of the spectrum...All power to you -- we all have our preferences/obsessions.

*PUBLIC SERVICE NOTICE* - My bash of Jim Groman's "Poster Kong" on Empire State is on hiatus as I am currently tacking the MUCH larger Cipriano "Kong Up Top" 'bash on another thread ... so this thread will be dormant for some time to come ...

Well. a year has passed, and this Fall I plan on completing the Groman "Poster King" 'Up Top 2.0'.

My mechanical engineer son-in-law with a garage full of tools was kind enough to take the base for this kit (the pipe was wayyyy too tall) and cut it down for me into something more manageable! :D

Now I'll just have one "row of windows" to add to it, along with some Art Deco detailing. Here's the base now:

Hoping to get to this guy soon. Now that he's cut to size I know exactly how I want to finish it.

Got around to hair-drying (heating) some styrene strips, then curving them with pliers ... these will make up the 5 stainless steel Art Deco rings on my tower ... tried gluing one but wouldn't stick to the top ... sanded the edges down, then soap washed the entire thing ... hoping my next attempt will be more fruitful.

If you are having trouble getting dissimilar plastics to adhere you might try “Plastic Surgery” CA glue. I buy it from my local ACE Hardware.
It’s great stuff for just that purpose.

Thanks! I'll search for it online! (ACE in San Antonio doesn't seem to have it right now ...) :thumb2:

How long is the set time? Is it like any "Instant Glue"? I ask because I will need to hold the pieces together. [BTW, thanks for the tip - I found a PHENOMENAL deal on a quantity, but I need to have a little more info before I 'pull the trigger' ]

Thanks in advance!!!

Plastic Surgery is thin and sets up very fast, 5 seconds or less in a warm environment.
Another option I thought of is good old two part 5 minute epoxy.
Of course, it takes what, 5 minutes?, to set so maybe not the best for your needs.

I am eager to try it. I found a seller that sells them in quantity (18), it works out to about four bucks a tube, which is much cheaper than what you pay for individual tubes.

Would you be interested in taking a few of them off my hands at four bucks a pop if I can swing it?

No thanks Vlad. I’ve got about 5 tubes of the stuff myself which will last me a long time. Thanks for the offer though.

No problem. Just ordered my batch, given your recommendation. Always good to try new stuff. (And I do like having a 'stash' of 15-20 glue tubes, so I know that "I'm good" for awhile - 'bashing big ole dinosaurs does tend to use up a LOT of it!) :alcoholic:
