Very unique and threatening! The skull face is scary in itself for this character.

Awesome as all hell. Very interesting style and concept and I really like the execution of it. I would personally have made her lower half into a snake tail as well, curling behind her and the smaller hair snakes, but I guess that'd make it too close to the Harryhousen look!?

I really like the fact that it's a human figure suspended from the snake bodies. Gives her an airy otherworldly look and breaks up the shapes nicely. I think it'd be overkill if she, too, had a body like a serpent.

Thanks Loborex for contacting the artist. Please keep us posted if you hear anything.

Hello everyone, I finally managed to join up. Wow! what a great response thank you all so much for your kind words, I'm glad you like the design, just wish I’d been further along before I posted these first pictures. I was a couple of days into this piece when I decided to take some pictures. I thought if I posted some early progress pics, then I would have a good reason to get a move on and finish it sooner rather than later.

Thanks Tobor64 for posting in the first place. I’ll have some new pictures to post soon. :D

When I first saw this, it just blew me away. Such an amazing and totally unique
spin on such a classic character. My daughter (8 yrs. old) thought it was "Awesome!"
as well. Really brilliant work. I can't wait to see it finished!! :D

He he :) Thanks Tobor! It's great to get such a positive reaction from so many people who know a hell of a lot more about sculpting then I do. I was wondering if any of you good people had an effective technique for creating scales. This is probably not the right place for this questions, so I apologise in advance. I have a lot of scales to get through for this piece and I don’t relish the thought of having to create each individual scale by hand.

I’ve done a couple of experiments myself to see what might work best, and so far I’m not overly satisfied with any of the results. I’ve tried creating each individual scale but the scale sizes vary too much. I‘ve also tried scoring a cross hatch pattern into the clay and shaping each one but it looks messy.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

WOW... just checking through the concept art... some real amazing talent there. And... your concept for this piece does show a version with a tail instead of legs... and WOW... it's looking even better than I imagined that.

*Death Becomes Her* is especially nice! .)

Thats a very unique and amazing medusa.

Ryan Firchau- If you want to do scales I would suggest creating a texture stamp/stamps. I have had success making few scale stamps from silicone. I like using silicone rather than a harder material, you can deform the stamp and get some variation and easy to get into tight spots. I don't usually like to use stamps, kind of feeling like cheating, but go with whatever works.

Hi Ryan,
This may help!
Incredible concept!
You could make something similar in different scales for different sized scales...

Too Much Garlic - Thank you that’s very nice of you! Glad you like my work.

Boafamily – Thanks you very much, what a great reaction! I’m working on it dude I’ll let you know when I get that far.

dark_wraith - Thanks yeah I know what you mean about feeling as though using texture stamps is cheating but I guess it's all just techniques at the end of the day and it’s the finished result which counts. I think the 50\50 sculpey firm, super sculpey mix is a bit too firm to take stamps well enough but thanks for the reply.

Chinh - Thank you glad you think so.

Zkulptor – Yeah that looks great I think that’ll work well, it seems as though it’ll give me enough control and a unified look.Thank you.

Thanks everyone for looking , I’ll get some new progress shots added as soon as.
