found a candidate but am going to spend another hour looking at images first. as Treebeard says, dont be hasty!

gotta say btw, i love the month long jam; so much better than 2 weeks as it encourages you to aim to finish a sculpt which i surely need to do and have failed so far!! learnt lots though so guess thats no too bad.

spent today playing with wax. got my subject but wanted to do a lil practice first. probably twist up an armature tommorrow knowing me!

....going to have to sculpt a skull too which should be challenging and fun.

After downloading a bunch of female subjects done by Mr. Frazzetta, to study as much as I can I am down to two possibilities: A princess of Mars or A fighting man of mars. I love the man of mars series by E.R. Burroughs and I have always wanted to do Tars Tarkas and John Carter and Dejah Thoris, so I am really tempted to do the latter but it's 3 figures. I may have to make it in a smaller scale, maybe 1/8. I'll know by tonight.

it's gone a little quiet so I decided to post a rough start. I feel intimidated to get this right, it feels daunting for some reason.

sorry! meant to post pics but have been fiddling with wax and an older(i cast Elektra in to wax) project JNR

great start man, the face is excellent. this would be one of thr Martian Characters huh? anatomy loooking good to mate.

on the bright side for me, am geting along with castilene and have found a way to polish it to a shine with no solvents which i am pleased about. think i'll do my jam entry in wax. just ordered some more materials from NYC.

Looking good to me. I will also try to post a pic tomorrow of what I have but it is still very rough. As for feeling intimidated... You are not alone believe me.

mods-- perhaps we should post an image of our chosen painting? mine is the Vampirella with Foot on a skull.



may need to alter the geometry a bit though. the supporting leg wouldnt work in 3d i think. may look 'broken'. is that cool mods?
going to use wax, just taking a few days to consider size of the piece. one consideration is 1/4 scale, another is 1/6 to 1/7th. i seem to get 'scale confusion' alot!!! so much choice!

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the picture, before I read your post about it. To me it just doesn't look right. It's all wonky-looking which is surprising for a FF illustration. I'd say make it work for you, T.

I'm most likely going to sit this one out. I'm busier than a 1-legged man in a butt-kicking competition. Except I think that I've got the target painted on my backside and the line of contestants is a mile long.

here are a couple of pics of my practice piece in Castilene and the finish i can now get with my polishing technique.




no solvents or weird mixes. no heat either. all i used is some 220 grit sanding sponges and talc(reduces friction) then 800 grit and more talc and finally 1200 grit with talc. a quick buff with a cotton cloth and a tiny amount of talc. works on 360 wax and beeswax too. hope this will help . i know i was frustrated at not being able to get a shine on my waxes. not now though!

Thanks for the polishing technique. I have a couple of pieces started using Gary's Zen wax and will definitely try your approach Tim.
