Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
This thing is using up more SS than anticipated. One block allowed me to bulk up the chest and one arm, all front only. I'm left with only 2 blocks left. I think I will need 3 more blocks.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
HULK SMASH!......sculpey!!
a figure like this is gonna eat the sculpey Jnr- this is where a re-useable material like Castilene would pay you back in saved expense imo.
off to a great start mate. look forward to this one progressing. great to have Another jamming too.
i have been a busy bee; ordered my sil putty and been working on my Castilene sculpt- pics in a day or so. would be today but i got a darned work related thing today...
and on a rest day too!
oh well only got 4 shifts left and then no more Mentalville. it will be a lazy summer of sculpting and drawing prior to University. cant wait!

X-23 in progress, Castilene.....

still roughing and carving but i am happy how she is going so far.... the Hard Castilene seems to have gone softer and somewhat browner so i am considering either transferring to Asbro or carve back more than i need and layer some Asbro for the final surface :k:
hope every one is enjoying the jam as i am !

Good job, fellas!
Jr., is that a Hulka-hulka burnin' luv? Are you using gray colored Super Sculpey or Super Sculpey Firm?
T-Bone, what can I say dude? That face is gorgeous and the cantilevered pose is rocking all kinds of attitude.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
Tim is that another sculpt? I like the face on this one, too. Very cute. Your faces are getting better and better. I've been using some oil based clay for the bust and have been getting tired of it. I wanted to get back to using SS.
Dennis - am using SS firm. After I use up the 2 lbs, I will have to cannibalize an old sculpt for its material.
I should have an update by tonight again. if the SS holds out.

I've added bulk to the legs but I still need to add more bulk to the body and legs.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
Thanks Dennis!!
practice makes perfect eh? still got ways to go but learning with each sculpt. guess thats the idea eh!
Jnr. Hulk is coming on
. sure gonna use some sculpey! keep giving the plasticine a go. its great if you can mold stuff.
X23 is my 3rd sculpt if you included Elektra. i dropped EL today and she broke some but all welded back! love the wax!!
Have remolded Miss Marvel in a wax i made today. came out good; like a hard 360 wax. should have the Avenger re-assembled in a few hours.
Elektra now has pegs and a makeshift wax base to hold her; i also ajusted the back arch a fraction to add more tension and drama.
Nothing on X-23 today! making wax and molding cut parts took all day.!!
pics to follow guys.....

AVENGER ASSEMBLE(D)!!
She's back!

Jnr, yep, i like the foredom. good little pen. about the size of a match box. i also fancy getting a Giles Waxer too....
wax is so troublefree. i can add a socket anywhere i want or repose instantly. i'd reccomend the switch over mate!

Someday, I will put it in front of my to buy list. It should be a good investment. There are so many things clamoring for me to buy them...if only I had money.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
I've made the torso wider and the thighs and legs and the arms. When I look at it, it seems fine but the measurements keeps wanting me to add more to the width. Looking at the picture it seems stunted from waist down, although it looks fine to me. What do you guys think? Should I try to add more height on the legs?

Another quick update.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
tough call Jnr! :k:....and a reason i think Hulk is challenging- how to balance mass and height. i'd guess he'd be about seven heads? so half way line at 3.5 heads times his head size should work out?
He does look kinda stumpy. is there any one you know who'd done a hulk and could tell you what dimensions they used?
working on one of mine today.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
Jr., can you cut up into the crotch from the inner thigh a little more to get some length or will that hit your armature?
One thing I noticed (and I'm not sure if you've made it that far yet) is that the calves and feet need to be much wider and not tapered so much. Dude has massive tree trunks for legs and feet from the ground up.
I hope I've described that correctly so it's understandable. I woke up early and I'm still kind of groggy!

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
Stumpy is the word for this thing, all right. The proportions I am trying to work off is the outlined version I did earlier. It's from the scene where he came out of the road. It's as straight a shot as i could find and I can't find any actual digital images they used in the movie.
Dennis - you're right about the calves and feet. That was actually the area I was hesitating to make wider as it just doesn't make sense to me. But you're right. I will bulk that area up and follow the caliper and see if that improves the thing, err, Hulk. I should have some more pics tonight.

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
perhaps an optical illusion is in order for Hulky JNR.:k:
you could base him on higher Proportions but increase the head size and width plus bending him at the knee will likely create the right illusion.
Other than that, grab a fabric tape-measure and head down to a toy store!!
HULK MEASUUUURE!
so today i cut Elektra aprt and socketed her so she breaks down nicely; i also works on X23 and changed her shoes to Goth boots based on a pair my GF used to wear some yrs ago. they look great and are excellent reference. finally i fiddled around with the face on Miss M . i notice she has a harsh/strong face; reminds me of Uma Thurman. she'd make a great Miss Marvel in a Film.
Next i guess i am going to spend a few days on hands. just got to do my last 4 shifts then i have all summer for sculpting!

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
With Elektra - did you cut it apart like kits and keyed it? I was originally planning to do that with Hulk but maybe not for now.
With 4 shifts did you mean 4 days? Which would be good since you would still have 2 other weeks to finish up the 3 sculpts. 3 sculpts!! Way to go, Tim!!

Re: Jam #109 Marvel.
Hi jnr! 4 shifts at time of writing was indeed 4 days. i went in today and they had too many staff so...... got the day off!!! RESUUULT!
SOOOOoo only 2 nights to work then Finito for goodo!
anyhoo, back to sculpture; yeah i have cut and keys her like a kit. i can make small molds like waste molding and figured that many small molds was less tricky tahn a matrix one . but, i do intend to try a full mold once i am free for the summer. Miss M and x23 will be likely candidates mate. their pose is up and down where as the crossed stance on Elektra would be difficult for a first full mold attempt. not impossible though! perhaps one of the guys on here could offer advice.
Theres a guy on DA by the tag Suprs3d who did a large Huld in polyclay some 19 inches tall. he keyed his by baking it and cutting it open with a razor then glueing say the arm back together and keying with no wire inside - well as far as i understood his processes anyhow.
He'll be joining CH soon so you could ask him Jnr.

Tim - can't find any postings for a suprs3d, links would be helpful if you have it.
maybe i will cut him up. I know If I do mold this I would not want one large mold from previous experience.
