Yeah, it looks like a dungeon you need some torches on the on wall and life size forgotten prisoner
hanging on the wall.. too..

Well, after a bit more patching, letting it set up, and a light sanding, I got the 2nd primer coat on last night.
Tomorrow or Wednesday, I will give it a light hand sanding to smooth things out and see if there is any more patching to do. (think there might be 2 small spots)
Then hopefully, first coat of paint on Thursday. Then see if it will need a 2nd coat.

Shelf looks pretty good otherwise - always patchwork needs to be done. Just like our models!!

Well, the shelf is now completely painted.

Image

I lugged it up from the basement and up to the second floor.
I'll let it sit there a couple days and cook in my room to make sure the paint is dried.
Takes a long time for paint to dry in the basement. My room OTOH is currently closed so the AC in the bedroom across the hall doesn't cool it much. So it is warm and dry in there.
Want to make sure the paint on the shelf doesn't end up sticking to the wall. So, if some time down the road I want to remove the shelf, it won't pull anything off the wall.

I am hoping to install it on Sunday, but will have to wait and see how hard the paint is by then.

Well, here we are a week later and the shelf still is not installed

Last Sunday it still wasn't cured enough to install. So, I figured, I would get back to rewiring my front porch. We hadn't had any rain for a while so it would be nice and dry underneath. Might as well knock that project off my to-do list.
And, well, as with everything, that job took much longer than anticipated.
I didn't even finish all the work under the porch that day.
Then I had planned to wire up so many things each day to wrap things up Friday night, Saturday morning. But with the heat wave we had, I didn't get much done through the week. I was so wiped after 10 hours in the heat at work, that I would come home and just lay around in the AC after work.

So, I just 'finished' that project tonight at 9 PM.
I put finished in quotation marks because everything is wired and works, but the job isn't done. I still have to tuck some wires in the junction box and put the cover on. Put a couple other covers on. Do some paint touch-ups where I had to fix some plaster. Nail a few boards back into place, put all my tools away, and clean up my mess.

So the plan is this upcoming 3 day weekend is going to just be spent having fun, and doing 'me' projects.
Putting my shelf up. Putting kits on the shelves.
I need to add more receptacles to my workbench because now I have added a paint mixer (that I haven't even had time to try out yet).
I need to add some things to my spray paint bench. I got a roll of craft paper I want to mount to it so I can cover it, and change it easily. And maybe I will work on wiring that up too. (gonna be a hair-pulling project, I want to have 4 switched receptacles on it).

So, hopefully I will have bunches of photos to add to this thread this coming weekend.

Looking forward to the photos.

The shelf is installed!

Then I spent a couple hours having a blast pulling all my stuff out to display on it.

Image

Took me a while to find most of it. (still haven't found it all)
Then tweaking my planned display as I saw how things fit, or didn't fit, as the case may be.

Now to design and print up a display card for these 3 that John built.

Thanks. The plan is to use the top shelves all the way around the room for masks, and my PS boxes I want to display.
Being that high up, keeps them out of direct sunlight and will cut down on UV fading (for the boxes) and breaking down the latex (for the masks)

Looks good.

Are you not concerned about UV damage from the proximity to the window?

(* EDIT - we posted at the same time :) *)

It will be once the whole collection is out there,
If you notice the boxes in that doorway, that is the closet in that room.
It goes all the way behind where the new shelf is. It is packed to the ceiling in there with boxes. Also about waist high on the other side of the doorway.
As well as all these totes of Prehistoric Scenes stuff to display.

But yeah, it does feel great to finally take some steps forward.
Now to hopefully gain some momentum and get some more done.

Very nice. I really like that top shelf and the angle to the window. Nice work.

Thanks guys.

Already have plans, and picked up materials for the next shelf.
Much smaller one, but it is for holding a bunch of my little kits.

Not yet.
I do have the new shelf built (pics tomorrow)
I just have to sand the wood putty, and prime it.
Hope to have it up by next weekend.

Here are the first pics of the 2nd shelf.

It's built, sanded, puttied, sanded, primed, sanded, painted.
Will sand and give it a 2nd coat tomorrow, and should be able to install this weekend.
