I would go with the darker scheme ; but you need to trust your gut feeling and paint it how you like.

My gut told me "go darker" - but I wanted to hear you confirm that for me!!!
I do think I will add a small ring of goldish "spackeling" on the border between the gold and the blue-gray for interest ... but the larger body patterning will definitely be dark spots/bars mixed in ... I have a couple of sauropod drawings by Mark Schultz (Xenozoic Tales, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs) that are simple enough and I like them!

Just 5 hours after the application of the "second misting" to the underside of the wood, and the installation of even MORE weights to hold it down - I am pleased to report to you: TOTAL VICTORY!!!!
The board has returned to a 100% FLAT state. By tomorrow evening the moisture should have evaporated from the underside of the wood at which point I will remove the weights and move ON with painting the Sauroposeidon! YEAH BABY!

After you remove the weights, paint the underside of that base so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the tip Trevor, I put it on a shelf that has an open grid on the bottom, so the whole piece of wood is completely dry and completely flat now. I'm hoping that this lesson learned might benefit somebody else out there who does the same boo boo that I did.

Re: IT. IS. GOING. TO. HAPPEN. NO. JOKE. AND. IT. IS. HUMUNGOUS.
Update tomorrow on the paint up of the Sauroposeidon ... but tonight a bit of fun ...
I recently ordered a couple of "catch the dinos" Schleich toys - one comes with a human 3.75" action figure and a helicopter, the other one with a human action figure and a jet pack, plus various "Capture Gear" ... nothing too realistic, meant for "Ages 1-10" and quite cheap - about $30 for both. [Note - the human figures displayed beneath each 'bird' are printed 1/35 figures I got earlier to give the dino display some scale. They are NOT the human action figures that came with the toys - just so there's no confusion
]
Why did I get these? Because a post over on the Dino Toy Forum alerted me that each one came with a VERY realistic, large and pretty Pterosaur! (From Schleich no less, whose prehistoric dino line is famed for its innaccuracy and ugliness!!
)
One is a majestic Tapejara, the other ... some other pterosaur ... pulling out some acrylic circles left over from one of the "Kong Up Top" bashes (tried them out for a propeller), a little drilling and trimming of some styrene clear rods I have, then drilling a hole in each critter quickly produced a cheap, yet NOTICEABLE, improvement in my Garage Studio 1/35 Dino-display!!!

As promised, an update on the Sauroposeidon paint-up (though I did not get to paint today):
As you can see, I am doing some "Pixillating" around the color edges, using 3-4 old brushes of various sizes that are stiff because they either got glue on them or were used for oil washes. Adjusting the brush size as well as the pressure of each spot gives off a nice effect ... not done yet, and after this step, the darker spots/stripes will be added on the body ....

UPDATE: Tonight (with the AC keeping the area nice and cool with the NEW CURTAINS closed) I attempted to see if the "Cheetah" stamp pattern might work. After doing one side ... I threw the stamps out and painted over the markings.
Tomorrow - back to the drawing board - with a much simpler and less busy design in mind. Let's not overthink this. A giant sauropod isn't gonna look garish like a parrot.

Hello everyone - I am soliciting some brutally frank criticism as well as help with ideas. Joe, Trevor, Everybody - I can really use some helpful suggestions:
I finished 'sketching on' the tentative color pattern on the right side - that is the top photo. After mixing some Gold/Yellow/Brown and mottling it, I would up with the top yellowish pattern. So far so good.
Then (bottom 2 photos) I experimented with some "color spackeling", eventually settling on a purplish hue because I thought the yellow was a bit loud. Now the questions:
1. Any suggestions about modifying the general shape of the stripes?
2. Any suggestions about the "mottling" - would re-doing the spots in Black over the Purple be better - or should the entire concept be scrapped?
3. If y'all think its salvageable, what color Oil Washes would you recommend on the Grey Top part of the body to tone down both the Bluish Gray and the stripes?
4. If not, I can just paint over the stripes with Blue Gray base, then hit it with darker oil washes and call it done. That would not be very artistic but would work to get it off my bench.
Please think about this and give me your thoughts. I'd like to finish painting this M*&!^%@$ (now you see why I DREAD the "painting stage", especially on giant kits). I didn't want to just leave the body a solid Grey, so I experimented.
Thanks in advance!!!

Ok, since you asked .
The stripes do not look organic or realistic .
They are too uniform . Look like stickers .
I don’t like the colors but we have always different tastes in color pallets .
But don’t let my opinion any others make you change.
Paint it how you like it, not how others like it!

Before I go into the garage and disappear them, I would appreciate to hear any ideas you might have as to possible better color choices for the the body markings - aka 'stripes'.
At the very least I will change their shapes and patterns. As you could tell from my comments, I had pretty much got the "gut feeling" that this attempt was a "fail" but before I re-start, I am open to suggestions!
PS - What if I darkened the top third of the body, then blended it into the lighter Grey middle using the same "pixilation" technique I used at the border between the belly and body? That might work!!!
