Allow me please this segue to "pimp" the work of another Master Dino-artist, Aaron Castrejon Bravo (of "Bravo Models" on FB) down in Mexico. I sent Aaron my HLG TRex with the arms from that Daspletosaurus (see upthread) and instructions as to how I wanted him to modify them, along with "lipping" this lipless model.

Well, the HaolongGood Rexie just came back today, Lipped and ready to box!!! :mrgreen: As I told Aaron, the scale on this model is too small for me to attempt to lip him ... and let's not even talk about matching this paint job! Well, no problem for Aaron. Here is the finished product! :drool2:

Factory paint job. The only areas of the figure that are repainted are the new "lips" and the new arms - blended into the factory paint job. He did an absolutely slam-bang job, too! =D> =D> =D>

Man… dinosaur models have come a long way since I was a wee lad.
All we had were small vinyl plastic toy figures in bright primary colors or the model kits from Lindberg which I still love for nostalgia’s sake.
They were low detail but we didn’t know it at the time.
Back then the thinking was Tyrannosaurs walked upright with their tails dragging behind them and that Brontasaurs were too heavy to support their own weight so they hung out in swamps, hardly, if ever, walking on dry land.

Your friend did a wonderful job for you Vlad! Love it! :bow:

Managed to get back to the Xenozoic bash tonight ...

... you know, there is another character - Jack Tenrec's sidekick, Mustafa Cairo, that I didn't have a place for in the original 'bash ... but look!

There he is, being modified into a ... riding pose???? I don't recall him having a motorcycle in the TV show?!??

And what is that saddle ... and that chain for??? :-k :-k :-k :-k :-k

I can't figure it out .... what could he possibly be riding .... Joe, do you have any ideas about it? :mrgreen:

OK. So my wife comes into the office to talk about some family affairs about her mom and daughter ... and as we are chatting I'm reclining, looking up at my TRex/Trike/Quetz 'bash that Bill Jones painted for me, located at the top shelf on the opposite side of the room ...

... and, as we talk, I keep looking at it ... and looking at it ... and finally, I look at my wife and exclaim: "Damn you Joe Heil. Just Damn you." :rolf: (Technically, I WAS STILL listening to my wife - as I just told her "I'm ambidextrous!" :wink: And I'll swear to it in court!) :mrgreen:

Then I explain the conundrum of the Pterosaur for this latest Xenozoic bash being too small to properly hold Mustafa Cairo ... and how you, Joe, pointed it out (it was obvious, after all, wasn't it), and then, I try to test something ... see photos below ... the one Bill painted has a much bigger head, body, and wings ...

So - whaddaya think about me doing a "Pterosaur Switcheroo" between the two dioramas ... its all your fault Joe ... its your fault that I am about to IMPROVE BOTH of these dino-ramas!!! So - THANK YOU!! :wink: =D> =D> =D>

Hah, well you know that’s what we try to do here, - cause each other to do more work, …oh wait. I mean help each other out..👍

But gotta admit, that rider does look much better on the larger non-dino

Some progress to report ... :mrgreen:

Thanks to the pliability of the rubber saddle, I cut off the excess pieces, then cut them down and used them to glue the saddle tight around the figure (still removable, just fits snug on the bird) ... then I used cut strips to reposition the stirrups ... then Mustafa got a couple of oil washes ... next he gets sealed, then the chain mounting begins ... oh its gonna be cool, I promise you that ... :mrgreen2:

.

Well, spent a couple of hours in the garage last night - and have results to show! :mrgreen2:

1. Mustafa spray sealed;

2. Hole drilled into the Quetz THROUGH the saddle (and also up into Mustafa's butt :mrgreen: ), pin inserted and figure positioned;

3. Two small pieces of copper wire twisted into a "loop" on one end, chain inserted through and then the wire clamped with pliers - the straight ends were inserted into the edges of the mouth to create the look of a "bit" in the bird's beak;

4. Chain carefully wrapped around Mustafa's hands to achieve a taught look; and ...

*VOILA*!!!!!!!!

(now I still need to mount the bird onto the diorama ... so stay tuned, but ... VERY HAPPY with the result so far ... (Joe - as they say "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" , so ... FEEL FLATTERED please ... :bow: :bow: :bow: )

PS please open up the BIG image to see detail!!! :lol:
